A bit annoyed I'm not a 9, really. My standards of anti-theism must be slipping.
I must call God a prick more often.

If we are sticking fingers in the air, my view would be that it is a good education that leads to atheism rather than just intelligence.Quite possibly so. My dearly beloved - who could have given wooter a run for his money on a bad day - is now fascinated by such programs as the recent two-parter by Prof. Hawking and even RD's 'Enemies of Reason' series. The more she learns, she less she is fooled by. But the individual has to want to learn and a lot of it comes down to trusting the source of the information. If your entire family and most friends have fed you a diet of ignorance, when someone else challenges that ignorance you won't trust them and will completely disbelieve what they say.

What can only be hoped is that a trenchant critical response by journalistic and science publishing institutions (and, of course, the blogging community)--will suffice so that Ben Stein never gets funding to make an Expelled II.Hmm. Does calling this self-confessed imbecile a 'fucktard' count as a 'trenchant critical response'?

To PhilipWooter, you are - and I use the word advisedly - a cunt.
(why your God does this to innocent people)
We cannot put ourselves into the position of questioning since we are all blesses. We would no be existed but we are. We are so much grateful to God. If some kids are born with sicknesses, this is the test for their parent that they can pass by patience and prayers. Sicknesses are the times as we have to pray. This is a kind of the same question why do you give him more money? And it is the same question that we ask in our junior college, why do we have a test? Can I skip the test and get the diploma without having a test?
The parents who lose their kids at very early age will be rewarded in paradise to be together with their kids forever.

You said: Academic leaders, leaders from all fields including faith should be able to add to the debate. What makes their voice authoritative is often the office they hold.
Epeeist said: There should be no restrictions on any one voicing their views, whether they are Christian, atheist, businessman or union leader. However, none of these people should be granted any automatic deference purely because of their position.
If you regard their opinions as authoritative because of the office they hold, you are, in effect, asking for automatic deference purely because of their position
Epeeist is currently ahead on points.

Their voices should only be 'authoritative' if their view is informed, unbiased and subject to peer review. An even then, it's just another opinion.
Cult leaders pass none of the above tests, no matter how old the cult is.
