My dearly beloved - who could have given wooter a run for his money on a bad day - is now fascinated by such programs as the recent two-parter by Prof. Hawking and even RD's 'Enemies of Reason' series. The more she learns, she less she is fooled by. But the individual has to want to learn and a lot of it comes down to trusting the source of the information. If your entire family and most friends have fed you a diet of ignorance, when someone else challenges that ignorance you won't trust them and will completely disbelieve what they say.

It is now only after several years with a rationalist that she's really grasping reality on a day to day basis. And this is someone with a top Honours degree in mathematics from a solid University. Someone who said that the idea of a 'big bang' was nonsense and that 'order could not come out of chaos' but who is now fascinated by quantum mechanics, M-theory and the possibility of evolved life on other planets.

The damage these people can do to the intelligent - when they are vulnerable - has to be seen to be believed.
