Comment #130792 by epeeist...Stay cool, stay calm and don't rise to the bait.

Thank you epeeist...as one of the newer people on the site I was reading the unfolding drama with interest, I was beginning to feel an undercurrent of spite and manipulation in Robertson's comments...And you are right, it was making me angry haha!! Very manipulative, satanic perhaps?
I kinda got the feeling of someone who has played Pascals' wager, and then realised late in life that they may have wasted their life, careers everything on a pipe dream and is now bitter and twisted.

Child abuse. Those kids were in thrall to their parents/guardians. All the kids wanted to do is please them and survive another day, they know no better. Selfish, self-righteous, self-serving, sick SOBs.

Comment #124044 by Verylee on February 8, 2008 at 8:05 am

He was trying to create a doobie rolling machine, but by accident broke the second law of thermodynamics

Now there's a thought! Maybe the machine is harnessing Psi quantum energy fields from Deepak's eternal youth seminars and transmogrifying all that hot air into a microwave cooker!

115. Sharia law in UK is 'unavoidable'

Comment #123646 by Verylee on February 7, 2008 at 12:39 pm

The ABoC has definitely stirred up a hornets nest...no matter what he may decide to say tomorrow! there are over 6,800 comments submitted to the BBC website alone (1750 posted) (Edit: and rising). Many other papers are also running the story with readers comments as well, most of them in the same vein as the posts here...It (sharia) does not affect me and it won't affect me, but a lot of non church going C of E folk are getting pissed off with so much political and religious appeasement even it it never touches their lives personally.

Comment #123597 by Verylee on February 7, 2008 at 11:37 am

A cunning plan?...Maybe it's an (dis) ingenious method to get the moderate moslems to start jumping up and down if they feel that sharia may be coming their way after all they have done to get away from it?

Comment #123579 by Verylee on February 7, 2008 at 11:15 am

It also reinforces how confused religion is and how even the religious leaders have lost the plot and do not know how to address all their various mythologies coherently...and on top of all that they have to deal with those pesky Atheists.

Hear hear! That's why I posted above, that when Creationist ("scientists") wilfully try to deceive people, they should be ridiculed...in such a way as to point out their dishonesty to the audience....granted not everyone knows the "scientific method", but a scientist in a debate should know or be damned forever.

Comment #122230 by Verylee on February 5, 2008 at 12:41 am

Next time a creationist mentions that "Evolution is just a theory".....Maybe the retort should be something along the lines of, "Are you implying that the listeners are all so stupid that they do not know the definition of a scientific theory? Like for example "Eintein's General Theory of Relativity", is just a theory?"...."How arrogant and deceitful of you, I am sure that the audience are delighted to know that you think that they are all morons!"

Comment #120686 by Verylee on February 2, 2008 at 10:18 am

Aren't Newton's "Theory of Universal gravitation" superceded by Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" (Equivalence) just theories as well? Who is he trying to fool? He's just preaching to the choir. All of these "Theories" have been found to stand up to the rigours of scientific testing and examination time after time and still these disrespectful scientists(?) will not accept it. If they were doctors, they would be struck off. I feel sorry for the children having to grow up in indoctrinated ignorance.

Just for the record what exactly is a "passionate anti-Darwinian" as he describes himself?

Nature maybe "red in tooth and claw", but Homo sapiens (brain/consciousness) has "evolved" beyond that (happy with that word?) and now should be able to deal with more complex societies without having to resort to instinct.
"At the same time as I support Darwinism as a scientist, I am a passionate anti-Darwinian when it comes to politics and how we should conduct our human affairs." Dawkins

Comment #120089 by Verylee on February 1, 2008 at 8:47 am

then give me your opinion on whom is the respected thinker, Mr Day or Mr Dawkins.

I find that comment idiotic.
Professor Dawkins has been writing popular science and reason books for over 30 years now, some of them groundbreaking in his particular field and they are still relevant today, and goodness how many papers and posts to his name. I doubt many (if any) had heard of "VOX DAY" before this thread (I certainly hadn't!) I hope that VD would have the integrity to admit this even if he does destroy Dawkins' reasoning with his erudition.

Comment #120070 by Verylee on February 1, 2008 at 8:31 am

As for the download, my theory is that the main problem from which most books suffer is that too few potential readers have heard about them,....

Kinda says it all. Also, I am sure the good professor would be very interested to hear that his arguments have now been comprehensively destroyed and will no longer be able to sleep at night!

139. 'Irrational Atheist' trounces God-deniers

Comment #119908 by Verylee on February 1, 2008 at 2:20 am

It took me a while but I ploughed my way thru all those posts! As I posted before and I think others as well...that the majority of us based our comments based on the tone of the interview. I for one will certainly not be downloading, reading or replying to his challenge (The author's name is enough to put me off)....because I don't really give a F**K if he trounces the "Unholy Trinity" with his arguments....it does not change a thing for me, can he prove the existence of a supernatural being? Millions of people arrived at atheism before Dawkins et al arrived on the scene, and millions will arrive at the same conclusions after their books have grown old and dusty on the shelves. So if VD's book really does sensibly refute all their arguments, good for him. I suggest it would better serve the theists (inc the de Souza's, Mc Grath's etc) and maybe they will come up with some better arguments in the future....but for me it boils down to, I don't have time for "faith" and all the (evil) baggage that goes with it and they need to provide "evidence".
He just wants the PR and he ain't getting any from me!

146. 'Irrational Atheist' trounces God-deniers

Comment #118017 by Verylee on January 30, 2008 at 8:31 am

I perused(?) the blog and comments on VD's site and many of the comments were to the effect that none of the shrill and abusive atheists had even read "The Book" and yet they deigned to critque it in their usual shrill and abusive manner. My earlier comments were actually made based on the interview transcript in which I thought that he had come across as very arrogant....but for myself, faith is just not a good enough reason to believe...so unless his book can provide me (a layman) with evidence (proof of the existence) of Allah/Thor/FSM I will stick with my shrill and abusive fellow atheists.

147. Death Sentence for Afghan Student

Comment #117956 by Verylee on January 30, 2008 at 4:19 am

At the risk of being labelled a cynic, I think now that he has been banged up, he is no more than a political tool, a "bargaining chip", and it will be up to outside elements (governments etc) to decide how much value they place on a human life over their policies and goals in Afghanistan, and nothing to do with blasphemy any more.

148. Atheism and Violence

Comment #117930 by Verylee on January 30, 2008 at 2:32 am

The popularity of the Atheism books written for the layman, the exposure of the televangelists and the emptying of churches has caught the religious institutions on the hop. They tried to fight back with accusations of "rants" and "shrill", "Hitler, Pol Pot" etc and they have been shown wanting. Now they are just spreading as much shit around as they can ....It's not aimed at Atheists in particular....but everyone, in the hope that some of it sticks and people back off investigating the cosy little racket they've been milking for the past few millenia. We don't want people to think and start asking questions now, do we?
