Are leaving the catholic faith, non attendance at church services and not taking holy communion grounds for instant ex-communication or is the process more formalized than that......?
Oh hell!!!!
So I might still "be" a catholic then?-say it ain't so Brothers and Sisters!

I'd side with Bonzai (posting no 49)on this 'un
"De-Baptising", if there is such an expression, may not be a formal rite or ceremony-simply stop attending as the faith needs you more than you need it and tell people you are an atheist-easy!
Complaining to the Church Hierachy seems to be doing you no good so do what I did-leave.
Tallywhackers?
Oh...! The expression was used in the "Porky's Film wasn't it?

*wipes tears of mirth from eyes* an enlightened church might be a good idea but if they can't recruit or indoctrinate they eventually go to the wall surely?
Might be a good thing actually-I'd plump for the legal framework to be put in place to stop religious indoctrination from a young age and combine it with children making an informed choice prior to leaving school-anything to prevent religious indoctrination and hopefully preventing future fuck-ups like this from happening
Sorry for intemperate language but sometimes swearing is the only option

The trouble is children will be allowed in churches (and mosques and temples)so that vampire preists and vicars can get em while they are young and impressionable-I stopped going after my catholic confirmation (around 11 yrs old-boy that was hoot) and never went back until my late mothers funeral some 6 years ago-also as an aside I thought Sunday schools provided the sort of service you mention in your posting-I may be wrong but I never went....
I'd still give children religious schooling but from the age of say 14 onwards ask them to make an informed choice regarding religion and whether they wish to carry on in whatever faith they've been schooled or discard it altogether

Sorry 7Fred7 but the fact they prayed for the child to live while actually watching the poor kid waste and die says neglect to me, faith or lack of it notwithstanding.
Saying religion is the guilty party is wrong. I feel the parents are still to blame and to that end should be charged.

That way he gets a long weekend until he tells pesky humankind to keep Sunday as a day of rest-also the clocks go back then around the end of October so he could go out on Halloween when it was dark enough for trick or treating?

Back on topic-the whole question of what is the point of the bish is? simple-money, religious power and acting as some committee appointed middleman telling you his version of what he thinks "GOD" is saying to us via his book of fairy-stories-like I said previously no need for this position of authority or power in this day and age
Someone posted a cracking quote on this forum ages ago along the lines of "when the last king is strangled by the entrails of the last priest, only then will man be free"-simply put the day religion dies will be the happiest day ever for mankind

Comment #138439 by Prankster on March 4, 2008 at 10:17 am
I can see where the confusion lies-I would say "well regulated militia" is the qualification-
Hhowever would I be right in thinking that in times of crises or war militias (not a regular professional army)would be raised composed of people having weapons, therefore "their right to keep and bear arms would not be infringed" for the security of the state and this is the crux of the argument?
Comment #138431 by Prankster on March 4, 2008 at 10:05 am
I'm still wading through the constitution-other more mundane tasks permitting. My interpretation (and I may be wrong so please don't anyone tear me a new one) is that the only people who should be able to bear arms should be the militia (national guard, whatever, call it what you want)and no one else would be permitted-that was my interpretation......be back after I've read some more

Comment #138372 by Prankster on March 4, 2008 at 8:44 am
Just looking at the second amendment, surely it's one sentence? One sentence that essentially says "in order to maintain a free state a well ordered militia (the national guard, say) is necessary and to that end according to the grammar of the sentence)the only people who should have the right should be the national guard"
The argument can be further clarified by simply reversing the amendment to read the following "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, in order to maintain a well regulated militia"
This doesn't mean any Burl Cletus or Floyd has the right to carry a gun. It doesn't say every psycopathic nut-job in the States should be allowed to carry a weapon
Sorry to be picky but that's how I read it....
