101. Lying for Jesus?

A mate of mine does economics. Aside from his passion for golf (urgh, a good walk ruined!) he's a cool guy...

102. Lying for Jesus?

Comment #167652 by DamnDirtyApe on April 24, 2008 at 8:39 am

You're very evasive Remnant. People are repeatedly asking you direct questions which you refuse to answer. That's very rude.

Slippy don't even bother arguing with his mumbo-jumbo. He's picking and choosing which bits in the bible he wants to respond to.

I like to pick and choose bits of knowledge myself, however I tend to pick the ones that EVIDENCE SUPPORTS.

Likewise, please don't go off and drink deadly poison: I know we're trying to proove a point by mentioning that bible quote but we don't actually want you to die.

I'm saying that because I'm convinced you might be stupid enough to give it a try. Well, Either that or you're an evasive hipocrite. I may describe you in nicer terms if you choose to answer Al Rawandi's and the others questions. That would be a smarter start.

106. Open Letter to a victim of Ben Stein's lying propaganda

Comment #165724 by DamnDirtyApe on April 22, 2008 at 6:11 am

My final thoughts on this matter relate back to the God Delusion, specifically the chapter relating to addressing Hitler. I always felt that while the general points were addressed, that chapter was relatively weak compared to the rest of the book. Reading the Professor's letter, the argument here is vastly more solid. Great job.

How can a word that means the exact opposite of theism be quasi-religious?

I think they're confusing it with Humanism. And Humanism is generally a great thing.

To be completely honest, I've actually never taken drugs in my life (with the exception of alcohol, and I don't get drunk terribly frequently).

Well, the technicality of that depends on your stance on Asthma medication. As I occaisionally need that to live.

This also is relevant to the Catholic church's 'new sins' - particularly the sin of 'genetic manipulation'. They appear to have forgotten that we've selectively bred crops, cattle and dogs since the DAWN OF FREAKING CIVILISATION.

It's pro-Dawkins & co in my opinion, but It's just not that funny to me. It's just kinda lame.

I much prefer 'the feast of Alvis' off Sealab:2021. Now that's freaking funny.

'How can you worship that guy? He killed a man!' - 'Only for revenge!'

'The true meaning of Alvis time - is drinking. Drinking and revenge.'

'We're gonna get loaded and score some revenge on the krebs!' 'Did you not read the book of Alvis? Alvis was himself a kreb!' 'No way!' 'Yes, it was the Romans who killed him. If you're going to get angry with someone, why don't you get angry with the Italians?'

137. Saudi Arabia Leader Calls for Interfaith Dialogue

Comment #149972 by DamnDirtyApe on March 26, 2008 at 11:20 am

This also reminds me of a quote a friend directed me to once:

Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. ...Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country. -- Hermann Goering

Does anyone sense a parallel here? I do, and it is truely frightening.

139. Saudi Arabia Leader Calls for Interfaith Dialogue

Also Reminds me of something in history. Queen Elizabeth the first tried to curry support from the Islamic world during the war with spain and france 'as a fellow monotheist'. Didn't work. Fortunately, military strategy works much better than faith.

149. New Atheists Are Not Great

Comment #145156 by DamnDirtyApe on March 17, 2008 at 10:18 am

A few Jefferson quotes can undermine most of what the former press secretary of one of America's worst presidents is saying:

There is no act, however virtuous, for which ingenuity may not find some bad motive.

Bigotry is the disease of ignorance, of morbid minds; enthusiasm of the free and buoyant. Education & free discussion are the antidotes of both.

The Newtonian principle of gravitation is now more firmly established, on the basis of reason, than it would be were the government to step in, and to make it an article of necessary faith. Reason and experiment have been indulged, and error has fled before them.

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

In conclusion, Snow is nothing. He also missed the point that we atheists are technically agnostics (in the same sense we are teapot agnostics that is) as well. I think he's just trying to appeal to his former base and keep idiots throwing money at him.
