Or did you mean seeing a woman breastfeed is a personal problem for you ?

Sometimes it's a personal problem for me. But only if she's taken over the whole sofa and there's nowhere for me to sit in front of the telly.

What you are objecting to is not children in 'places they shouldn't be, but badly behaved and badly parented children in these places.

Or parents who are not considerate enough to ask for a corner table, out of the way of others, when they have their baby with them.

Hitchens is wrong about the birth of Buddha. There is no consistent dogma about how the Buddha was born. There are some Buddhist schools which include supernatural nonsense, but there are others than accept that he was born the normal way.
Could not the same be said about Christians and Jesus? An interesting parallel perhaps? One that we can employ the 'No True Scotsman' on, anyway.

Not a bad article, but I disagree with:

Not only does he set out to prove that God is a statistical improbability, a pretty ambitious task for any scientist.
I'd say this was a trivial task.

And:
Dawkins spends a lot of time discussing evil acts committed in the name of religion, but little time disentangling religious motivation from political or economic factors, or acknowledging the acts of charity or goodness directly inspired by religion.
If RD did this, all the theists would grasp it like a drowning man grabbing a lifebelt.

My soul depends on you.

As you are well aware, first he has to prove you have a soul.

Then he has to prove it continues to exist after you are no longer a living biological entity.

Then he has to prove this soul would suffer(?) if the previously living you did not believe there was a god. This, of course, includes all the pre-requisites for the proof of such a god.

etc
etc
etc

hello. Good luck. You'll need it.

Oh right - better not to rely on evidence and (sometimes extremely) hard science - but to believe codswallop in an old book of fairy tales.

What's boring is not grasping the above.

Would I be more interesting if I believed in invisible sharks in my bath? Well - I suppose from the perspective of a psychiatrist I would be - but it's hardly a rational belief.

And like a great many others, I am of the opinion that a great deal of philosophical views are complete bunkum. Just because someone posits an idea or hypothesis, does not make the idea or hypothesis valid.

Good grief. It's like wrestling blancmange.

Not all theists are fuckwits - they've just been brought up that way. And it can be very difficult to let go. Imagine if you discovered that your parents has lied to you every day of your life and made you suffer for that lie. Serious denial territory. Spot on, mate. In which vein:

1858. Comment #135622 by Artful_Dodger -

Along with many other Christians I have no problem with theistic evolution.
i.e. making up more crap when people have seen though the old crap.
I do not agree that it drives a coach and horses through the teaching on the Fall
Self-serving rubbish. If there was no literal fall, there was - literally - no fall.
The story of Adam and Eve could be a story, a lierary creation, which illustrates the collective attitude of rebellion against God that humankind fell into with regard to God.
Even before you consider this, you have to prove there is actually a god. A book of perhaps or perhaps not literal stories, made up by primitive men is not even worth considering as evidence.
Nowadays there are lots of stories and plays which illustrate aspects of human nature, where the characters resonate with a significance that transcendes themselves.
So what. They don't purport to be written by - or 'inspired' by - the creator of the entire universe.
I'm not saying that the story is not true. But it may not be true in a literal historical sense.
Postmodernist claptrap. Truth is not a matter of perspective. Facts do not have an agenda. Reality is what it is It's either true or it isn't.
The story of Adam and Eve and the talking serpent are very powerful images, symbols of the state that men and women ar in with respect to their Creator.
No it isn't. It's a myth told by men who had little or no understanding of evolution, cosmology, geology etc etc etc. To believe it is even figuratively true, is to ignore 3,000 years of science and reason.
This figurative Adam (=man) is later mirrored by Christ who also faced temptation but did not fall, and was therefore able to represent and embody redeemed humanity.
Seriously, how much does reality have to be twisted to even come up with this idea. Jesus is supposedly God - not a 'normal man'. Having expensive oil poured on his feet instead of having it sold for the poor? Purportedly persuading grown men to abandon their families and wander with him? Smashing up other peoples property in the temple? Good grief. Hardly admirable behaviour.
I know that David's correspondent would not agree with me hjere and would call me a heretic. That does not worry me. Fortunately there are people like David around who are able to take on board less literalist interpretations of the book of Genesis.
So what. Promulgating a myth as 'truth' or 'figurative truth' is dishonest either way. And to interpret Genesis literally (oh, and by the way, which order of creation of animnals, plants etc would they literally believe? It can't be both orders.) is, to paraphrase Lewis Black "...like watching The Flintstones as if it was a documentary."
