Either something exists, or it doesn't.

Remove something from nature, it doesn't exist.

There's no such thing as "supernatural", it's copout language for lumping together things we either don't understand, or that are just imaginary.

Again, if magic existed, it would be testable, and become science.

It'd be a normal part of daily life.

The laws of nature are never suspended.

If they were, that'd be a new law of nature, and then the laws of nature would never be suspended.

Oh yeah, this thread blasted off when RtG started posting, and I forgot to reply to that point.

My standard reply is what I've said before, that the moral content of certain religious statements is far more repulsive to me than an entire library full of thick heavy books filled with nothing but "fuck".

In fact, such a book would effectively be meaningless.

Whereas, the bible makes its vulgar intent very clear.

Thus, the christian preoccupation with "bad words", is as meaningless as the theoretical "fuck", book.

Those who willingly choose to fixate on the word choice rather than the actual message are knowingly practicing dishonesty, if not ignorance.

Debating religionists long enough has shown me that none of them can claim the naivitee to hide behind the latter.

It's yet another smokescreen, one they've been allowed to throw up for far too long.
That, and "it's for the children (that we take away your adult freedom)".

We're incredulous to religion because of science and logic.

Here for me, is the core lunacy of the ID position.

You can't mix it with christianity, and call it a serious science, and not be a fool, and yet it's the christians who are behind the whole thing.

If a supernatural being designed human beings whole cloth, he'd have to be the most brilliant mind in the universe.

The ultimate scientist.

BUT, this idea is latched onto by christians.

They want their god to be this ultimate genius super-scientist.

But he's demonstrably fucking not.

In the bible, he's a capricious, arbitrary, tantrum throwing, jackass.

There's no reconciling this.

You've pretty much got to argue...

1. There is a god, but he never wrote the lousy books attributed to him. Which equals Deism, and christians sniffily wave this alternative away.

2. The moron asshole tyrant in the bible is an idiot savant somehow when it comes to molecular genetic engineering, like that retarded guy who can make beautiful clay animal sculptures.
I don't see any christians leaping onto this one.

3. OR, what they typically go with, the genius of ID, and the moron asshole tyrant of the bible are somehow the same guy, and the scribbly tangled yarnball of illogic needed to splice them together is pushed away into a smokescreen cloud called "it's just too mysterious for you to understand".

Well, if they wanna pull the "god is beyond our understanding", card, then all the ID "scientists", had better just give up, and shut up, and call it a career, because this admits their endeavers are essentially pointless.

All this leaves, is that "ID", is just politics.
It's about a worldview.
That's it.

They want fairy tales, we don't, they hate science, we don't, they want their kids ignorant, we don't, they want YOUR kids ignorant, we REALLY fucking don't.

It's all that simple.

We all talk til we're blue in the face about memes, and deluson, and indoctrination, and all of those play a part, but in the end, it's the same old battle between people stuck in the past, and people looking foreward to the future.
