Comment #182258 by al-rawandi on May 19, 2008 at 2:25 pm
I asked D'Arcy specifically about aspects of socialism in the following posts, I received no answer:
Post 497
Post 494
Post 489
Asked D'Arcy to define socialism in post 427, no answer.
In numerous other posts I outlined what I thought the problems with Capitalism were, I got no response.
It is like debating a theist, they don't address the issues and use emotive language to wail and bleat about a system that is so evidently superior as to make them look foolish.
I think I am calling D'Arcy out after the 3 strikes.
D'Arcy,
Good try, but you have to actually answer posts to call it a debate. And as for the scrap heap, I am doing just fine, making good money, saving for retirement, and voting for people who will do the right things for my country (as best I can). How is whining incessantly coming along?

Strike two. One more try...
You are being subjected to Dr. Benway's three strike rule. You have again not answered any of my questions posed to you. This has gone on for about 7 posts now, but I am not going to count the first five, so you can have another try.
The questions are posed above....
Answer if you can ever find the courage.

Goldy,
When you are driving a car, and another car hits the side of your car, there is body damage and a few hundred dollars in damage. If you are on a motorcycle, your leg could well be severed. Those are the minor differences.
Maybe I need to send you the videos of impaled rides and guys dragging themselves across bloogy asphalt looking for their severed leg. My favorites are the decapitations. Those are enough to get you into and SUV.

Dr. Benway,
If he is still interested in a motorcycle, let me know. I will email him about a dozen videos... mostly of what happens to the human body after a motorcycle accident. Enough scatterred limbs to scare off everyone of my friends who ever contemplated getting a motorcycle. It is gruesome, but it is an effective deterrent.
Good luck on the recovery.

Ghandi,
Bah. A tool, a moron. Notice what is on the Indian national flag. A spinning wheel. Ghandi advocated a return to pre-industrial society. The man was whacky, and luckily did more good than harm.
I prefer Muhammad Ali Jinna (president of Pakistan early on), when asked about partition he said he felt it was good, when asked why he said of cows "They worship them and we eat them, how can we live together!"
MaxD,
There are non-violent pro-Palestine movement. They are often staffed by non-Arabs, from western countries. They are often joined by pro-peace Israelis, and both are shot at (rubber bullets) by the Israelis. So it has been difficult to get the movement going, as the IDF actively attempts to suppress.
The Israelis have a right to self defense. In fact the Palestinians do as well, that is why I find attacks on armed settlements and IDF soldiers in the West Bank to be legitimate forms of resistance and self defense.

The Hypocrites of religion, are just that....
They always seem to say "abortion is acceptable in the case of rape."
So they are saying that if a woman is raped, then killing the child is acceptable, but if she is not raped, then it is murder. Killing an unborn fetus is either murder or it isn't. I wish they would get their shit together and figure it out. I also wish they would stop pretending they care about women's rights.

Bonzai,
Israel is a racist state. However it is not motivated by traditional racism, which desires to exclude the other. It is driven by the inclusiveness of Jewish identity. The Jews feel that they cannot live in non-Jewish society, or that this society cannot be trusted.
However, it is manifestly true that if you base citizenship requirements on race, then the state is racist.
Israel makes decisions based on "survival" mentality. They will attack other countries without legal mandate to prevent an unacceptable situation. For example, the Osirak reactor in Iraq, or the reactor in Syria. They will hit Iran if they must. They have launched preemptive wars, because (mostly led by Moshe Dayan) they have refused to take a chance with their existence. Thus they constantly stand at odds with the UN.

To be fair, the Palestinians have mainly engaged in non violent protests for more than 40 years until the first suicide bombing in the 1990's. You really can't expect them to be completely non violent after their brutal expulsion can you? As you yourself have noted in your other posts the founding of Israel was not a case of gentleman agreement over tea. The Irgun was a terrorist army.

Non-violent protest would work far better. But non violence will not destroy Israel or kill hundreds of its civilians. One must question the goal of Palestinian resistance. The Islamic radicalism portion is pretty clear in its goal.
How can one trust the motives of a group that cites the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" in its charter (Hamas). I don't know what to make of them. It is clear that most of these Muslim "resistance" groups are deceitful, can they even be trusted to maintain a ceasefire?

Quetz,
You see, here in the US (an evil place according to D'Arcy) people are free to be communists, and live their lives as such, join the American Communist Party, Vote Communist, expound on the virtues of Communism publicly, travel to any part of the globe to study communism. In a socialist country one cannot do this. Capitalism must be crushed, including all capitalists.
D'Arcy keeps yelping about Marx and how everyone who critcizes him is just misreading things. Marx said, and this is undeniable, that freedom is a bourgeois notion, and that personal freedom is only a means to abuse of the working class. Marx is anti-freedom, he seeks the forced relocation of human beings and the ultimate control of their lives.
That is exactly what happens in any communist country. So when Communist countries act out Marxist ideas, people like D'Arcy have to say "misinterpreted", because their bankrupt ideology is shown as a joke.
Such beliefs like this would be a joke, if it weren't for the fact that millions and millions have died as a result of such insane beliefs.

Israeli soldiers, have from time to time, used Palestinians as human shields (I can count 2 events where such a thing took place). Both of the soldiers responsible were disciplined, I believe. The Palestinians, use their OWN people as human shields... it is a PR move. They can then say, the Israelis shot a child, never mind that a militant was firing over his shoulder.
Another thing, IDF soldiers are often only firing rubber bullets. Of course, the Palestinians never use rubber suicide bomb belts. Or anything else, less-than-lethal.

Quetz,
Some people will believe anything. The belief in Socialism (and it is solely a belief, because no evidence exists to support its effectiveness) is equivalent to belief in the risen Jesus, who will return to usher in a kingdom of peace and justice. Just because some whacko writes it in a book doesn't mean it is real.
You want to see where socialism goes, look at North Korea. A journalist had the following exchange with a group of students studying English in Pyongyang:
Dianne Sawyer: "What is democracy?"
Student: "It is the noun of democratic."
-Sawyer is shocked beyond words-
Sawyer: "Do you ever want to leave North Korea?"
Student: "No, it is best to stay here?"
Sawyer: "You like it here?"
Student: "Yes, the beloved leader, Kim Jong Il, provides everything we need, he is the best leader and Korea is the best country in the world."
These people walk around with Kim Il Song pins on their lapels. Brides even wear them, and forgetting to wear you pin is so disrespectful as to get you thrown into a gulag.
But everyone has free clothes, food, and medical care. Of course not enough of it, and many people are starving. And how does the capitalist south live? Very well, and they also have socialized systems, the difference, the South is a fundamentally free market.

LastGreekStanding,
And what about the small girl used as an unwitting suicide bomber? This is ommitted in your analysis. Now, I have had some experience dealing with Chomsky catamites on this site. And I notice you are of similarly dogmatic liberal persuasion.
Let's talk about the Israelis. I am always quite critical of Israel, and I hold it to a higher standard than its neighbors. The reason? Because it claims it is the only democracy in the Mid East (true) and it is the most moral army in the world (not true). But I will say one thing about differences. Two examples:
1) Israeli soldier shoots a young girl in the West bank.
-Reaction: investigation and prosecution by IDF.
2) Suicide bombing in Tel Aviv market.
-Reaction: Widespread celebration in Occupied Territories. Small children hand out candy in Gaza.
The IDF does a poor job punishing its own soldiers, although it often does it. I maintain the punishments are not severe enough. However, it is only Palestinians who throw enormous public celebrations upon the news of dead children and other civilians.
You said Israel is an Apartheid state... I can agree if we are speaking about the Occupied territories, but inside Israel? I fail to follow that logic. Are you equally critical of the apartheid that goes on in the Gulf States, notably Saudi Arabia, and Iran? In Iran, minorities are mercilessly discriminated against. In the Gulf states, Sub Continental labor comes to work, without rights, and are forced to live in sqalid camps out in the desert. My guess is you do not yelp about this. Can I hope for you to condemn this as seriously, or should I only expect you to ever whine about the nasty Jews and Americans, while the Muslim Arabs are perpetual victims?
And a question I must ask you, how would you deal with the following situation:
-You are an Israeli (say IDF general, or prime minister), on your southern border there is a constant stream of rocket attacks against civilian centers. Your citizens are demanding action to end this onslaught. You see that the Palestinians are firing these rockets from a pre-school, a mosque, and from in front of a hospital. What would you do? How would you protect your citizens from murder?
Of course you would have to first agree that Jews have the right to defend themselves... not every critic of Israel seems to agree to this right.

D'Arcy,
Your employment has nothing to do with your posts, I was only curious.
You are deluded if you think that Socialism will entail a withering away of the state. The only way you maintain the system of absolute control is through a large state system. I can tell you are deluded because you refuse to answer the following, which has been put to you a half dozen times:
1) How are resources allocated?
2) How are people prevented from starting private sytems of finance.
3) How do you prevent capitalists from coming to power?
4) How do you prevent abuses of minority groups and parties?
Since you refuse, time and again, to answer these points, it has become obvious that you suffer from delusions, one of which is an insane belief in the worst and nastiest ideologies of all time. You are wearing blinders. Socialism, to ensure its existence, must crush personal liberty and ambition. That is why every instantiation of socialism does precisely that.

Comment #181179 by al-rawandi on May 16, 2008 at 2:48 pm
No comment on the simple facts of what is necessary and called for in Socialism:
1) Lack of incentives for people to excel.
2) Forced transfer of populations.
3) Lack of liberty.
4) Government allocation of resources.
It would be oh so wonderful if you address my points instead of using misty eyed liberal nonsense to make some vague point, unrelated to my post. Marx was an idiot, and a person who was consumed with a great deal of hate, tossing away boureouis "freedom" and the like, all the while demanding an authoritarian system of anti-liberty, something far more reminiscent of Ingsoc than the utopia you describe.
I asked, and could you please answer, instead of launching into another emotive speech, how would resources be allocated to people who:
a) Want more
b) Need more
How do you justify a government, assuming it is elected, telling people how to spend their time and energy?
In this socialist world, is the government elected? Is it a democracy? If so it will simply be tyranny of the majority. What about people who would like to live independent of the state, and have a capitalist system? How would you purge these undesirables? Because in a capitalist country you are free to go live on a communal farm, and people do it, is there similar liberty under socialism?
The facts are clear, socialism will require the following:
1) A massive state apparatus.
2) A massive bureacracy to micro manage people's lives.
3) Suppression of opposing ideas.
4) Suppression of liberty.
This is undeniable, how else do you deal with those that still want a system of capital? Wanting to live unmolested? How do you allocate resources.
Now answer some questions instead of launching into some nonsensical speech, much more in tune with a lifetime student, than a person who has spent much time thinking about things in the real world.
You never mentioned what you do for a living?

lastgreekstanding,
Wellity wellity. The ignoble smasher of racism crawls forth from his cave. To, sans but one meager spot of evidence, ignorantly belittle an exceptional thinker... Keith, not SH.
Sabra and Shatila, the Phalangists, encouraged by Ariel Sharon and the Israelis. Quite a good point, and one I raised myself. But this is one instantiation of Christian Arab violence... I cited several more, in support of your vain efforts. There is no doubt that Muslims excel at violence, as well as other perversions of humanity... Such as slavery, concubinage, child rape, and indifference to suffering.
Can you cite for me some instances when Christian Arabs raped 8 year old girls, claiming Christianity as a motivation? Or when they traded in slaves, citing Christianity as a source of legitimacy? Of course not.
The fundamental failuer in your flailing attempt at reason and logic is that one sees a definitive cause of Christian violence, namely Israeli occupation and Palestinian violence in Lebanon. The benighted commentator may well say "Well, certainly the Muslim violence can be attributed to occupation as well." Indeed it could, although we must take their word for it when they say it is Islam that drives their ideology, but no matter, I can concede the point.
But then how do we account for Egyptian violence against women, and the Coptic Christian minority? How then do we account for the Sudanese Janjawee Arabs cleansing the south of Sudan? How do we account for suicide bombers striking in Gulf states, where their only victims are other Muslim Arabs?
It would also be important to note that Arab-Muslim violence predates occupations, and can be found when the Arabs themselves were occupiers. And we can go back to before Islam and see incessant tribal warfare between the Arabs. Islam is a reformulation of this deadly tribal ethos, creating a larger dichotomy between Kufr and Islam.
We can also serve our purposes (that is if you too wish to see the truth come to light) by looking at the kind of violence that takes place. The Arab-Muslims in Iraq have just sent an 8 year old girl into a crowded area and detonated the bomb strapped to her chest (she probably didn't know it was a bomb) from a distance. Or when they used two women with Downs Syndrome to carry remotely detonated bombs into a crowded market. When have Christians or Atheist Arabs done this? How about brutally beheading innocent aid workers, who committed the sin of trying to help feed poor and suffering Iraqis? Islam teaches beheading, Christianity and Atheism do not. This is a specialty of Islam, and there is no denying such a thing.
When the Christians used violence they used it as a political tool, one objectives were reached it subsided. But Islam, continues its deadly march. To withdraw our forces would be to invite further attacks on US and European soil. Reparations would be void as a concession of defeat and weakness. For the serious Muslim the only acceptable Middle East is one with 6 million dead Jews, dead "apostates", and Christians paying a poll tax in a religiously apartheid state.
It is people like you who these people so laugh at, not me, but Muslims. Useful idiot, I can't remember the Arabic word for that, but believe me those many radical Muslims view you as such.

And here is the nail in the coffin of the foolish Socialist/Communist.
Let's take the suggestion of "no currency" and begin from there. This is a system which must necessarily be imposed on the economy. So let's take two examples, a real capitalist country (USA) and a hypothetical socialist utopia.
In the US, if I wish, I can withdraw from the economy and get some people together, go live on some land, live communally and never use currency. This is quite possible, and people do that here in the US, it is because people here are free to live their lives as they choose. In another capitalist country (Israel) people live in a communal fashion on the Kibbutzim. They are free to do that.
Let's take this hypothetical utopia of socialism. There is no currency, and all are treated equally. Now what if I wanted to get some people together go live on some land, farm it, divide it up amongst people, and create a currency system. We could make our own money, and never bother the system. There is no way that such a socialist country would allow this behavior. It would have to crush it, because people on the outside would see this model, and people becoming successful due to their efforts. The government would have to crush this model, or the state would have to confiscate the money and lands.
Can anyone see the difference. If people are asked, they usually choose to have the opportunity to flourish based solely on their efforts and abilities.
In a captialist country, use of resources is determined by amount of capital possessed and some government regulation. If I like to drive to Los Angeles every weekend to visit, I can do so, so long as I can afford it. I am free to do this. In this no-currency country, how are these resources allocated?
If I want to drive to LA, I would need more resources, how does the government alot these resources? Do I have to apply to some bureaucracy months in advance? What if my father in LA is sick, and I need to fly there once a week? How does the government deal with these wants and needs, without a currency system?
The fundamental issue is that a socialist systems such as D'Arcy has suggested (and as Marx suggested) is doomed to failure, simply because of the massive government system that would be required to micro-manage everyone's lives. It would grow so inefficient so quickly, that the populace would be utterly fed up and would wish to return to a system of liberty where they can make decisions for themselves, even if that is limited by possession of capital.
Socialism crushes itself under its own weight. People prefer freedom to do what they please, even if this is limited by financial status.
Poor people flock to the United States, not to Cuba.
No one ever got shot going east over the Berlin Wall.

Well let's see what those workers got.
They stayed poor. And all the people that were well to do got poor as well. Therefore everybody lost, big time.
You are dogmatically tied to this fairytale notion of socialism (an insane and inoperable version sans currency), it seems unlikely that you will be disuaded. The burden is on the socialist to show one reason why it is better, just one. Historically they are disproven and even theoretically they are disproven. They cling to the notion that there is some perfect world where socialism works. Well there is such a world where free markets work perfectly. The problem is neither world exists, and in the real world (a place few socialists ever visit) a country centered around a free, yet appropriately regulated, market with effective social programs is the best. No wageless society will work, no wageless world will work. It doesn't take a difficult thought experiment to figure this out.
My conclusions are wrong????? Please go back to the Manifesto and look at the end of the penultimate section, where Marx and Engels write that populations must be moved from urban areas and spread throughout the countryside. How is that going to be achieved if not through a return to pre-Industrial society, and/or forced relocation? The implication is obvious.

RM,
You edited post #75. It got longer. Not noted by you.
And I agree with Diacanu, name some names. Have some courage.

I meant to say, Palestinian Univeristies in the West Bank and Gaza. Not in the US.
It is a past time for Muslims men to drink and fornicate, then turn and criticize women for dressing immodestly. Fun for all.

MaxD,
I have come to expect next to nothing in the way of enlightened social commentary from the science world. It is primarily reactionary, with a blind eye to history.

I know how I get my highs.
Being lewd and sexually explicit with random women I don't know. That is all the transcendence I need!

I have fun with fanusi. I get the impression he hates me a little, but can decide if he wants to hate me 100% yet.
I hope to get to 100% by June.

MaxD,
The racism card gets thrown too much. It goes for all over, examples:
1)"Israeli settlements are illegal"
-"Anti-semite"
2) "Islam is based on barbaric texts"
-"racist"
This is the common form, too bad that people can't be rational and actually listen to what people are saying before starting the chanting of liberal slogans.

Diacanu,
Most dentists don't even come close to raking it in. Most dentists are struggling, some are succeeding, and very few are "raking it in".

MaxD,
I was just curious. It would be a great fit for Fanusi. He is keen on being an American citizen and keen on killing Muslims. I figured this would be two birds with one stone. He talks a good game about punching people who call him a Nazi, so I figure he would be a perfect fit.
The growing trend is really here in the West now. it is a trend wherever there is creeping westernization. Palestinian universities experienced it. So it is prevelant in US universities as well. I had classes with at least 4 girls who did not wear the hijab, but later chose to wear it (chose meaning there was no husband to force them, I am not ruling out a father's pressure). In a Middle Eastern Country which is impotent, and sees an increase in westernization, there may be a push back, part of which is wearing the veil.
