walk past a churchyard at full moon?

Oooh! a full moon? I see it now, witches flying on broomsticks, the howling of a werewolf and a churchyard!!! OMG! Spooky! I'd be fearful of Zombies!! oooooooh! Full moon! Heavens!!

You do realize it's the lack of the Earth's shadow cast on the face of the moon that makes it "full", right? No matter what part of the moon we see, it is always ALL there? Full moon? Scary? COME ON!!!

someone did get carried away and started writing jokily about going to one of David's lectures and bumping him off. He then repeated variations of the joke a few times. From the context it was perfectly clear that it was precisely that - a joke - but it was clearly an inappropriate joke, so the 3 posts concerned were removed by the moderators.

Wow.

You know what, I wasn't aware of that either. Even if it was a joke I'm disappointed in "us". All joking and anger toward theists aside, that type of talk, even if a joke, isn't helpful to anyone. On behalf of myself and anyone who cares to join me, I sincerely apologize to Mr. Robertson for that type of behavior, we don't need to have that here, and frankly I'm embarrassed and angered. If this has already been addressed or this apology has already been issued, my apologies for not being aware of it.

I see none of you has dealt with the UNANSWERABLE point's

What points? You haven't made any! You've only made it clear that you have no idea what you're talking about, can't spell and have a chip on your shoulder which is based on a seemingly less than adequate education. Read a book, understand history, grammar and science before you make even more of a gigantic fool out of yourself.

How can you tell people what to believe or that they're wrong when you can't spell simple words correctly?

COME ON! You're not even trying. I bet you're a frequent poster who just made another name to mess with us and extend the thread.

Everyone needs to relax.

Clearthinker's last post was very eye opening. I didn't think so at first, in fact, when reading it I began to get distracted with the rich text and fact based conclusions within that I knocked over my fresh cup of coffee! It got all over my "heathenistic" documents, anti-theology texts and many satanic ritual volumes. I ran to get some paper towels to clean up the mess, and upon returning, found that the coffee had already dried â€" I wondered how it happened so fast?! As I looked more closely, I found that it resembled a virgin in a veil! I was shocked! What are the chances? At that very moment I began to repent! How could I have not known? I feel so ignorant, I mean, it's her! It's the blessed virgin. Clearthinker's text now is crystal clear: He is a GREAT man, he's trying to save all of us and we're not listening.
Well Clearthinker, Jesus (and mother Mary) have found me! I was lost, and then I spilled my coffee. Lo! I am found again!
I have decided to go into a cave in the wastelands down the block to repent, I will only return when the holy spirit of the LORD has reentered my soul. May you all find God so that we all can enter the kingdom one day and pray for those who will be lost forever. Amen.

Irate- I'm not sure why that comment deleted, I've had that happen several times with posts on this site. All I had said was that I was very surprised (in a good way) that Paula responded to my comment and that I wish I could be in the UK with her discussion with RD. I'm glad you agreed with my -blank- statement though, it's sort of like agreeing with a theist. Just kidding.

Hey, you guys are going to get together? Not fair, you can't do it in the UK! I'm in NY so, you'll have to arrange for a meeting on a barge, in the middle of the Atlantic, it's only fair. If I spend much more time reading/posting on this site I'm going to have to move to the UK and get a small cottage with a "garden" (or from what I see from the pictures, what we'd in the states call a "yard")

Edit: BTW, from what I've seen, those houses and "gardens" are beautiful :)

The Bible is blasphemous against the true nature of the universe - whatever that may be! (Yes, I did just say that). This thread is homage to all who knew better in their time, and inspirational to all of us here, fortunate in our time, to have a way to discuss in proper fashion. May our open minds lead to a better tomorrow! May REASON continue to "bless" you all!

Comment 132, InYourFaceNewYorker:

Those are separate events, on the 14th, at the Barnes and Noble is a book signing and the on the 15th he is speaking at the Center for Inquiry; most definitely two separate events. I'm really interested in the lecture/talk/whatever at CFI, the tickets are first come first serve so I'm not sure how early you'll have to get there to guarantee a seat.

Of course, this is all from what I've gathered, if I'm incorrect, someone please let me know.

Why doesn't Wooter understand that most of us that post/read these threads are so far removed from that limited mindset that his posts just lead to comic relief?

Needless to say, it's disappointing to see the exact same dogma/ignorance over and over...

Either he's a very lost theist or a fellow atheist playing tricks on us.

Edit: Back to the topic, I'm planning on attending the event at the Center for Inquiry in NYC on March 15th. I'm very nervous that I'll make the trip only to learn that I won't be able to get a ticket. I'm coming from the "suburbs" of New York (Long Island) so hopefully, I'll be able to see Richard speak, in person, for the first time.

Comment #134373 by Star Spangled Eagle on February 27, 2008 at 4:41 pm

The host was awful, most of the callers were ignorant, but damn Richard was brilliant! It seemed like he was prepared for every question that came from the callers, providing a great response, no hesitation, no frosting, just facts.

One can never underestimate the power of religious dogma. It's really quite depressing. I'm sorry, it's why I love Christopher Hitchens so much, he smokes and drinks because sometimes, in this world of ours, thats all you can do.

I think the good book talks about population control too; (these people aren't the chosen ones, DESTROY THEM!) In reference to this article, although it was a good idea, the completion of this study is sloppy and doesn't help us in the end, thank "God" science is never satisfied.

167. Debate between Richard Dawkins and Madeline Bunting

Comment #127038 by Star Spangled Eagle on February 14, 2008 at 6:10 pm

I read the bible. Most of the time I look like this (see avatar), at other times I admire its fables and parables, aside from all it's bigotry, homophobia, hate and etc. I agree with those who have already said so, Richard, (Professor Dawkins) was great in this clip.

168. Richard Dawkins on The Big Questions

Comment #123408 by Star Spangled Eagle on February 7, 2008 at 5:37 am

Ug, I can't believe I wasted all my time watching this! Professor Dawkins should never appear on this show again, people were mostly talking about their feelings, not anything substantial. The fact that a religious 14 year old got time on this program to be taken seriously when critiquing Dawkins book is insulting to the non-brainwashed. Ug! I know this was posted because the professor was on it, and of course he's very good in it, (all of the collective 2 minutes of it) but it seems like a waste of time for him. It was a waste of time for me to watch too, I can hear people talk like this everyday, and when I watch a show called "Big Questions" I want them treated that way. As my UK brethren sometimes say, "what rubbish."

Hey, since this thread was originally about a book that you seemingly haven't read, (since your most of your arguments are slapped down so easily in TGD) why not leave us demons to the fire. You're just getting responses from more people than you are able to respond to.

Steve Zara: You live on this site, you're always posting! That being said, it's ALWAYS a pleasure to read your posts.

epeeist: You also make some fantastic points; I loved your equation for God(s)

I haven't mentioned others that have also submitted fantastically, thank you all as well.

172. Sam Harris debate with Rabbi David Wolpe

Comment #107510 by Star Spangled Eagle on January 4, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Wow. What a great debate that was. Both Mr. Harris and Rabbi Wolpe were polite, listened and responded in the proper manner. We need more events like this to promote awareness. I CANNOT wait until I get to see something of this nature in person; with any or all of the "horsemen." I so very much enjoyed this, thank you for posting!!

Bhutto was a leading figure for Democracy (and a leading candidate in the Pakistani election) and was killed by an Islamic terrorist (at least, that's what is being said.) So, in turn: the Democractic process was disabled or slowed by terrorism.

AtheistJon:

I agree, the "religious left" may be even worse. I think that many have spoken of that; people that "believe in belief" that do not speak up to the crazy believers.

al-rawandi:

I never said we should "bomb the shit" out of anyone; a "war" against terrorism isn't won by "bombing the shit" out of anything. I am always for encouraging democracy but sometimes people don't listen or take action again figures of democracy (ie: Benazir Bhutto)

What have I changed my mind about?

After I saw Christopher Hitchens on the AAI 2007 DVD and he explained his stance on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and how he supports those wars. I have supported the war in Afghanistan but had trouble with Iraq, after hearing 'Hitches take on it, I have a new outlook on the entire situation. It has been hard to see the whole view on Islamic extremists due to subversion of the issue by the "religious right" in this country. The focus should be on the extremists and religion that fuels them, they just don't see that their beliefs are a problem too (albeit, a smaller one)

Hi everyone, I just set up an account on here. I've been an "atheist" for a while and just recently have started to get envolved with the movement. I just want to personally thank each and every one of you for being who you are, hopefully more of us will start "popping up" everywhere.

I'm not sure I truly knew what a Hero was until I read/saw Sam Harris speak, but I redefined my definition of hero once I learned about Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Alright guys, sorry for the OT rant, I just was excited about finally being here; avatar to follow shortly.
