It's really rather upsetting how many people replying seem to have not bothered reading the article, and instead are just replying with the standard "no creation in science class" fare. I doubt anyone here needs to be convinced that creationism is not science, and should not be taught as science.

The article does not argue against that at all. So perhaps everyone replying as if it did should take a second and consider why they are reacting how they are.

Whoa there Mr. Pointy Fingers Quick to Judge, perhaps if people would stop writing articles on why creationism should be taught in science class, we'd stop responding with it isn't science and shouldnt be taught IN science class. Perhaps you overlooked this gem from the article,

"The ideas offered by intelligent design creationists are not the products of scientific reasoning. Discussing these ideas in science classes would not be appropriate given their lack of scientific support."

I agree with the first sentence but disagree with the second. Just because something lacks scientific support doesn't seem to me a sufficient reason to omit it from a science lesson

Perhaps you should read and re-read that sentence until it sinks in.

I also think that people like a mediocre leader because the presidential election has become more of a popularity contest and has been seriously degraded. They want someone they can talk about and relate too. It does indeed for some reason provide a comforting feeling. People don't pay enough attention to politics and world affairs to really give a damn. I'd venture to say that most Americans don't pay any attention to the elections until the 11th hour. Ergo it becomes a whatever feels good/right.

I see. Some years ago James Traficant made a statistical comparison between accidental hospital deaths and gun related deaths. You were 80 times more likely to die under the hands of a doctor than you were a gun. Don't know if that's still true for today but it's the thought that counts.

I love certain parts of my country and certain things, not as a whole and I don't feel like I have a "devotion" to it. I'm sure I would be just as happy living in Canada, UK, Australia, NZ, etc.

Do you love your country? Would you accept the splitting up of your country into two separate ones? Would you accept your country being taken over by another provided you have the same rights as right now? Do you feel proud when you recite your national anthem? Do you stand up when it plays? Do you respect your countries flag?

To a point. (I don't love it MORE than another) Yes. Yes. Meh. Sometimes. Not really, it's a flag.

Maybe I should have said basic human rights. They do protect and defend citizens right to live, no? The rights that have been established by the country for the people. They protect them from a take over from another country.

What if it engages in an offensive attack? Are you asking if I feel that you need to have patriotism then? I'm not sure, but that's precisely a reason why I don't feel that nationalism is a good thing.

Although some people may feel like a patriotic attitude is why they joined the military, I don't feel like it is something that has to go hand in hand. Nowadays people join the military for all sorts of reasons and patriotism can often be the last thing on ones mind.
