152. Richard Dawkins on The Big Questions
Comment #157272 by dragonfirematrix on April 8, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Considering all of the "my side is best" religious views from the debating audience, I say we have a very, very long way to go to achieving peace and mutual respect for differences on this planet. In fact, I will go so far as to say there never will be respect for differences, or peace.
As usual, Richard's point about proving with factual evidence remains an oasis of clarity, honesty, and thoughtful reasoning. However, I would venture to say that few in the debating audience would accept clear and factual evidence over their superstitions. Intolerance was evident as they showed considerable sensitivity responding to questions and comments about which I will only mention a couple (E.g. Islamic extremism and the Holocaust).
The Holocaust is fact, The Law of Evolution is fact, God is Imaginary is fact.
There were a couple of the debaters in the audience who were rather objective with their thoughts, but only a couple. I guess we all need to remember to be sensitive to the religious, else they might persecute us, burn us to death, cut our heads off, strap us to a dunking stool, mutilate certain body parts, or fly planes into our house. Yes indeed, I do agree with the right to insult.
Richard deserves a great deal of credit sitting calmly while the superstitious persons in the audience pretended to discuss humanity from their religious belief point of view.
Did I miss something, or was most of the debating audience made up of the typical bickering authoritarian classes of Abrahamics religionists. I do not recall hearing from the Wicca, Buddhists, or Hindu. I think the fire spewing Baptists were mentioned a couple of times. Please help me out here :)
Like I said… Planet Earth has a very, very long way to go.

I live in America. In fact, I am about six miles from Liberty University, pretending to be an institution of higher learning that teaches the planet is only 6000 years old.
In my opinion, we have a grave problem in the United States. We have religionists trying to push their beliefs into everything being taught to young people.
America is loosing its edge in everything. The GOP is controlled by the religious nuts, and the Democratic Party appears obligated to acknowledge religion. Both, of course, are wrong.
Religion will be America's undoing.

What a lunatic!
Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago),
Your feeble minded, archaic thoughts probably have some difficultly climbing out of the cesspool of religion, but I will play your game for a moment, but only for a moment.
From this article is a quote of madness, which is: "What you have to spew and spread is extremely dangerous . . . it's dangerous for our children to even know that your philosophy exists!"
Your comment was aimed at Atheists, but I suggest you should be pointing your verbal gun at religionists.
Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago). I am playing with your god right now. Maybe you should evaluate the evil your great and (so called) wonderful god has imposed on the masses of this Earth. Maybe now would be a good time to list a few of the terrible things your god has caused (if, of course, you believe in god):
1) Decease
2) Discrimination
3) War
4) Starvation
5) Oppression
6) Neglect
7) Natural disasters
8) All kinds of suffering
9) Murder
The above are a few of the things your god does to children.
Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago), maybe you would like to explain to all of us why your god does such evil things to children. Explain.
Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago). Atheists do have a right to speak to government, and from all appearances, I think the Atheists have a more positive messages than your god.
Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago). I am not near Chicago, but I support Democratic Party ideals. I question your democratic credentials. I believe you to be a ranting and raving religious lunatic. I suspect your job is in jeopardy with the next election. I hope you end-up in a line at a soup kitchen.
155. Biologists Take Evolution Beyond Darwin Way Beyond
Comment #156116 by dragonfirematrix on April 6, 2008 at 8:25 pm
The last sentences of the quote have special meaning. To quote that text:
""I think Darwin would be happy as a lark to come back and see what's going on," said Peter Bowler, co-author of Charles Darwin: The Man and His Influence. "He'd say, 'This is quite exciting!'""
I think Darwin would be proud and delighted with the achievements of science. Unlike religion, which stagnates, does not evolve, does not learn, and does not accept new knowledge, science continues to reach out to grasp and understand the deeper meanings of everything.
If it were not for science, we would not have cures for deceases, we would not have home/life comforts, we would not have safe food and drink, and on, and on, and on.
I tell challenging religious persons that science cured the scourge of child destroying polio. Then playing their game, I question their faith and I ask them to explain (and justify) why their god would create deceases to destroy the lives of so many innocent children? LONG PAUSE… I get a lot of dogma, but no intelligent answers.
Science rocks! As for evolution... well, it also rocks, and it is call The Law of Evolution.
I think Darwin would be delighted with the achievements of science.

So... Robertson thinks things unbalanced, huh.
Quote from article: "Author and pastor David Robertson said he was concerned the event, hosted by the UHI Millennium Institution (UHI) in Inverness, would not be balanced."
Personally, I am concerned that religion is never balanced. With religion, there is always only one right side of the debate, which is their side.
I say all churches be required to (every Sunday) have speakers who do not believe in gods, so we can balance the sermons (propaganda) fed to mind-numbed believers.
Churches should be required (every Sunday) to balance their rhetoric by having Atheists, Secular Humanists, real scientists, and a host of other non-believers to speak at church services.
I suspect if my will was implmented, Robertson not argue about balance again?

Comment #153697 by dragonfirematrix on April 1, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Ah... as religion blossoms beautifully into a toxic plant...
We have Christians in America, who want government to enforce their religious symbols in public places, and push their beliefs in public arenas (E.g. - courts, schools, work, etc.)
I have been longing for the confrontation with this dilemma to begin, which, if left unchecked, will only increase and complicate the problem over time. This toxic plant will grow and regress the free world into a bunch of bickering, violent denominations (sects) of Neanderthals (please see Islam for examples). No matter which road the 2008 American court takes, the reality is probably going to be: "Huston, we have problem." My special thanks go to Mr. George W. Bush for all he has contributed to this GD problem.
Other religions want the same treatment from the government enabling them to display their religious symbols in public arenas. I want the Secular Humanist message displayed along side of government approved Christian monuments. I am sure Humanists would also like recognition, as would the Wicca, the Atheists, the Zeusists, the Neptunists, and (ooooh) the Venusists, and others. If America really believes in the "freedom of religion," why are not the beliefs of others that differ from Christianity given equal time?
Okay, U.S. Supreme (whatever) court, it is your turn to chatter.
So…
Only now, when it is possibly too late to change course, might the religious fanatics of America understand the reason for the Separation of Church and State. Then again, it is not likely they will ever understand.
I offer my condolences to the pushy religious of America for starting this problem in our free (for now) country.

To quote a segment from the article: "It is true that while Muslim families, as is well known, continue to make a lot of children,"
Just a few of rambling ideas about this topic...
1) Making more babies has to be the ONLY way Islam will grow. They have to bear and indoctrinate their own babies just to increase their membership. Otherwise, why would any person in their right mind voluntarily want to become Islamic?
2) With all the hate and violence that Islam commits upon its own people (even children), they still have to replenish their population to replace the population they are killing.
3) The more babies they have, the more people their religion gets to oppress, and the more women their religion gets to mutilate.

Comment #152983 by dragonfirematrix on March 31, 2008 at 7:41 pm
I would think that being de-baptised would only require that we decide to change our stand publically on everything. For example: moving from the republican party to the democratic party; going from a born-again idiot to realizing that we are only born once; from tithing into a loosing plate to putting our money in the growing 401k; simple stuff.
A simple public change of views is all it should take to be de-baptised.
171. Anti-Quran Film Fitna Pulled From Web Due to 'Threats'
Comment #152350 by dragonfirematrix on March 30, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I just viewed the video "Fitna" by Geert Wilders on Google. I think we all agree the Islamic people are violently against humanity, and that the Islamic are beyond recovery.
I know we should aspire to being tolerant, to learning, to mingling, and to accepting differences, but a line must be drawn somewhere. Democracies will never peacefully co-exist with theocracies, and there is no greater affront to democracy than religion, particularly Islam.
The very idea that our president (for seven years) thinks that these Islamic heathens will convert to a peaceful democracy is the biggest pipedream in human history. Mr. Bush, are you familiar with the phrase "when pigs fly?" Please let me know the first moment you see a pig soaring over your head.
There is no separation of church and state in any part of Islamic life. These religious heathens breathe, eat, work, school, and live their god fantasy (delusion) every waking second of their lives. Reality is not an option. The Islamic are beyond recovery.
Strange thing is: We have Christians in our own country (America) with hateful attitudes toward freedom, democracy, civil liberties, civil rights, human rights, etc. We even have Christians thinking their child died because they (the parents) did not have enough faith, when the problem was identified a routinely, by science and medicine, curable decease. Again, reality is not an option. The Christians are also beyond recovery.
So…
What do we poor liberals, atheists, secularists, humanists, agnostics, and just plain freethinking people of reason do to save humanity? I mean, all we want to do is get thru Monday, make it to Friday, so we can have a fun filled weekend with our significant others. Do we just put on a condom and hope for protection from the god (pick one) fearing heathens while the fanatic faithful burn, bludgeon, torture, mutilate, behead, and drown us to death because we do not share their version of religion?
If we allow religions to continue to exist, we are proposing a plan for our own demise, and the demise of everyone else. We need a new plan, which is less tolerant of the Neanderthals of humanity. We need a plan soon because…
…Before it is over, the religious will be responsible for WWIII.
Last thing…
I hope Pat Condell does video on this. There is no one more qualified and more eloquently capable of hammering the affects of religious atrocities home.

So, from what does Jesus (and other gods) save us?
I guess history is replete with the horrors of religious beliefs carried out against the innocent who did not believe in the approved gods of the times. "Acts against god," which resulted in beheadings, or being burned to death alive.
Jesus does not save. There are no gods saving anyone. We must save ourselves from ourselves and from our obviously unforgiving natural environment.
I get agitated every time some goon says… JESUS SAVES!
We have natural disasters killing everyone regardless of their religious and non-religious beliefs, we have decease killing everyone regardless their religious and non-religious beliefs, we have wars killing people regardless their religious and non-religious beliefs, we have unfortunate accidents killing people regardless their religious and non-religious beliefs. NOW, if the religious believe their god created everything and if the religious believe their god controls everything then the religious must approve of their god's actions against even the most innocent (including innocent children) of humanity.
MY OPINION: Science has done more, in its relatively short history, to save and help people than all the religions combined have ever done. Science has done wonders to cure childhood deceases like polio, and more.
God(s) do not save anyone from anything because gods do not exist. That said: Why do the intelligent of humanity continue to allow the psychology of religious beliefs to rule the Earth?

A guess the religious are saying a theocracy would make us all be so bubbly happy we would not be able to contain our expressions of joy.
Then again...
I wonder just how happy people, oppressed by religion, really are? Not only this, but if the religious are so happy, why do they hate so much stuff and why do they fuss so much about what other people privately do?
Happiness is no religion at all.
195. New Atheists Are Not Great

Below a quote to which I have a response.
"He describes how Christian principles of free choice and human dignity laid the groundwork for democratic political systems built on inalienable human rights. They inspired free markets in economics and intellectual pursuit."
Please do not be offended by the "all-caps" text below. It is not intended to be yelling text but, it is "all-caps" to distinguish my response. :)
IF THE CHRISTIANS ARE SO INTERESTED IN FREE CHOICE, WHY DO NOT THEY SUPPORT FREE CHOICE (EQUAL RIGHTS) FOR GAYS, LESBIANS, WOMEN, LIBERALS, ETC?
THE CHRISTIANS ONLY GIVE LIP SERVICE TO FREE CHOICE. CHRISTIANS LIE WHEN THEY SAY THEY SUPPORT FREE CHOICE.
I do not feel that it is necessary for me to justify further. I am certain all thinkers understand.

I see The Dark Age Neanderthalistic mentality of religion still breeds. For the sake of all humanity, we must find a cure for religion.

Thanks Richard.
You are doing the Earth a great service by bringing the truth about science and god(s) to humanity.
Now, if we can only get humanity to accept the truth and realize that god(s) are a creation of humankind.
198. Bishop accuses gays of 'conspiracy' against the Catholic Church

A pattern (of the religious) formed a long time ago.
The religious almost constantly complain about a conspiracy against them all the while persecuting others for one thing or another.
Maybe if the religious would just stop trying to send everyone they hate to hell, we could all live together in peace and harmony.

Oh, the purity of the judgmentally of the religious...
The religious answer to nearly everything seems to be...
Ban this, ban that, ban everything.
So, if we ban everything, the planet will be a better place??? ...right?
200. Deadly Sins 101

This is a sin, that is a sin, everything is a sin...
The only thing evolving in religion is the list of things the religious hate, and the list of people the religious want to persecute.
I wonder how many people throughout history have been severely punished, or put to death, by religion for failing to follow the little black books of mandates.
Let us start calling religion a sin.
