151. MPs reject calls to cut abortion limit

Comment #183107 by Colwyn Abernathy on May 21, 2008 at 11:50 am

this needn't be a question of theist versus athiest

I, too, concur. If they're gonna continue to spout Leviticus 20 at us, they may as well include 25 as well. And, hell, why not 12? Childbirth is UNCLEAN! And girls are twice as dirty as boys. Let's have some consistency here at the very least.

Personally, I think I'd rather have no life at all (that's currently debatable) than one of misery, pain, and poverty. To have never existed...I mean, think about all teh kittehs that are never conceived! I'm denying the world the next Beethoven by not having sex right now. Again, that's just me. ;)

I would enthusiastically agree with both of these points. That does not make me shy away from asking questions. It should not inhibit anyone from doing so.

Oh, I'm hearing you on the FM here. However, you are not asking questions, you are making claims that are backed by faulty logic. For example: if life is a product of cognition (or even basic cognitive processes) how do bacteria survive? How do they come about? How come mitochondria within a single cell contain different DNA than the cell itself, when they don't contain any organs capable of cognition?

I pose these questions merely to txpiper. I would like you in particular to answer them. Thanks! :)

In other words, he suggests that we can get around the divide between science and God if we come up with a new concept for God that focuses on the wonders of nature , among other things.

The concept of The Matrix is fascinating, disturbing....and imaginary. SRSLY, do we NEED to "recreate the sacred" even though it's solely IMAGINARY? Doesn't make sense, then again, I'm a reader.

Comment #181444 by Colwyn Abernathy on May 17, 2008 at 8:35 am

Worried that American popular culture leads people and especially teenagers astray, the Christian version is designed to satisfy all the same needs in a cleaner form.

Of COURSE it does! It's modern, up-to-date, and NEAT! A bronze age text spouting barbaric traditions is EXTREMELY difficult for new generations to relate to. Henry Rollins talks about this. It's like getting a kid who's into rap, R&B, read "The N Word", saw "8 Mile" and "Dangerous Minds" to buy into the idea that black people are inferior because his own race is superior. NO kid who's been exposed to the "target" of hatred/intolerance/inferiority firsthand is gonna buy that. And therein lies hope, at least for me.
