It just feels like it's loaded with cynicism.

But would we say 'that hat is shitty looking grandma'?

Hey, my great-grandfather had the balls to say to my grandmother "what's up with your hair!? Go get it fixed, you look like an Irish washerwoman!!!".

We need more great-grandparents sticking around.

Thank goodness for the internet.

Back in the old days, the newspapers would publish some drivel from an apologist, the atheist response couldn't even get a look in, and that'd be that.

People would swallow the apologetic hoo-hah, everything back to crappy normal, the end.

But look how much info we have at our fingertips.

Look how many of us are just normal shlubs, and in a short span, we've mastered atheist debate ju-jitsu as well as some pros.

The genie's out of the bottle.
One has to studiously go out of their way to be one of the duped masses at this point.

That's it in a nutshell. It doesn't matter how it makes you feel. Is it true is what matters.

There's more evidence to believe in flying saucers than there is for God.

And yet, people who believe in flying saucers are snarkily called "buffs".

What moved christians from a small pitiful band of Jesus buffs, to having their crap indulged by society?

Sure as hell wasn't proof of their God.

Oh, that's right, it was Constantine, the council of Nicea, and the bullying of the catholic church for the next few centuries.

Nah, fuck it, christians, you're Jesus buffs.

Your conversion stories impress me as much as Bubbah's alleged anal probing.

Letter to a Secular Culture, described as "a well-reasoned case for the many benefits of faith."

I don't suppose believing in something that isn't a delusion will turn out to be one of those benefits.

Unless there's proof of God in there, I don't give a shit.

I don't care if belief in Santa cures hemorrhoids, I fucking refuse to fucking believe in fucking Santa.

Cartomancer-

Ugh! What is it with Americans and their guns?

I couldn't tell ya, I seem to be missing that chip.

But us folk who live on coastal states seem to be missing whatever bug the inland folk contract at birth.

Now, I don't think guns are icky, I'm not afraid of 'em, but I don't get a hardon for 'em or worship 'em either.
They're just an instrument.
May as well get obsessed with my set of kitchen knives, or the Philips had screwdriver I fix my computer with.

Had a B.B gun as a kid, shot paper targets and soda cans with it for a few weeks, and then it got really boring, and I gradually lost interest.

Not seeing how a gun with a bigger bang would make the excercise more interesting.

Not enough redneck DNA in me I guess.

I suppose the only place left to go after target shooting is hunting, or killing a guy.

Not into hunting.
Not because of any sort of "waa!! It's Bambi's mom!", bullshit, it just meh...it's cold, it's early, and if I did shoot something, bleh, I don't like gutting things, and I don't like venison that much, and you cut up a whole deer, you're stuck with lots of it.
Plus...I don't have a beef against the deer, and there's no real challenge there.

Fighting a tiger, that might mean something, y'know?

But even then, it's a critter with claws versus a guy with a gun.

So, eliminate hunting, that leaves war, or waiting for someone to break in for me to kill.

And...people who stroke off to the hopes of the latter are sociopaths.

And war, meh, no thanks.

So, by process of elimination, I don't get the hardon for guns thing.

I kinda almost do, but like theology, it's an alien mindset to me.

I could see it back in the frontier days, when a gun really was your lifeline, back then, you HAD to hunt, and to kill a motherfucker intruding on your property.

But, I can't see fantasizing being back in those days.

Smacks of the religious impulse for civilization to end y'know?

Yeah, couldn't tell ya, Cart.

And continuing the lying for Jesus thing, a lot has been said comparing religion to a drug addiction, and I think after seeing David's behavior, that hits the nail on the head.

Lying, stealing (writing rubber checks), manipulation, all to keep the buzz going.
All to chase the high.

And if you mess with the high, you get a negative response that's way more than what was called for.

Hell, he even called Jesus his "magnificent obsession", or somesuch.

I was flipping channels, and caught some of "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew", and it was the same shit.
Anger, anger, lies, lies, anger, lies, crocodile tears, martyrdom, anger, lies.

I said to myself "damn, these junkies are as exhausting to put up with as theists", and then the connection clicked.

I can begin to see Robertson's ploy. Get Dawkins involved in such a pointless discussion with those more practised at it, then if Dawkins fails to impress, this would be some kind of "victory" on home ground for the theists, sidelining the issue of the existence of that which is omnipotent in the first place.

And the evil Professor Dawkins will shrivel up into ash and blow away, and a rainbow will beam down, and it'll rain magic wheat thins, and David and his pals will have their precious job security, and the ignorant little villagers can go back to their dumb little lives in their dumb little hovels, and mediocrity will hold sway, and all will be right on God's flat square earth.

"Atheism isn't inherently nihilistic for the following reasons..."

-"YES IT IS!!!"

That reminds me of something that's been bugging me at the back of my mind for awhile now.

Theists accuse atheists of being cold blooded materialists who don't see humans any differently than cabbages...

...but the ones I observe in the real world treating people like cabbages...are fucking conservatives.

Specifically the full blown money-chasing types like ScooterNYC who judge people's value and right to exist by their bank accounts.

And these are exactly the weasels the christians snuggle up to politically.

In America anyway, dunno how it is in Europe...

But yeah, 98% of the atheists here are some kind of progressive, if David is scared of bloodless soulless monsters, they're already assraping the planet with the christian stamp of approval.

If it's pulling mankind out of the deep fat he's after, it's us he should be siding with.
