Say, d'ya suppose David could twist my throbbing desire for Alyson Hannigan into some sort of anti-atheism propaganda?

Y'know, like maybe having a kink for puppy-eyed milky skinned gingers leads you to hellish ruin somehow...

Steve Zara-

Sorry, but how can you possibly say that? How can it compare with the most perfect Buffy season ever - the third, with the Faith/Mayor story arc?

Meh, guess I missed that.
I checked out assorted episodes of seasons 1-2 and was turned off by the teeny-bopper-ness.

Then, I caught back up to it when the last 2 seasons were rerunning on FX, and I liked it a lot better cuz the kids had grown up.

But even then, my boiling animal lust for Alyson Hannigan is all that really kept me watching.

...oh, holy shit, now I've got Alyson Hannigan back in my head again...*drool*...I'd do everything to her, I'd lick her armpits, I'd eat her toejam,..sweet mother of...MMMMMM!!! DAYUM!!!

...ahem..

But, one has to factor in that my enjoyment of Buffy may have been drastically hindered by that I have almost as much contempt for teenagers as I do creationists.

I also happen to think Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the finest TV series ever made.

I disagree.

After all, it would be absurd to reject theism (in this case 'Christianity')

Why is christianity always the default form of theism?

And why is chrisianity always automatically leaped to after one of you theists argue an alleged proof for bare-bones deism?

Sorry, you first have to prove deism THEN you have a mountain of work cut out for you to prove that christian theology is true, and not Mithraism, Zeusism, Thorism, etc.

Which is where the dehumanizing aspect comes in.

If we attack his precious beliefs, no harm done from our perspective, they're imaginary crap.

He believes that shit, he thinks we're going to Hell, and he couldn't give a shit.
His self-righteousness matters more to him.

Either he's dehumanized us as lifeless video game targets out of the gate, or he's monstrous.

I mean, if he can see us as human beings with feelings, families, dreams, etc, and still want us to roast...yikes...

Religion provides comfort in this way I think.

Not to me.

It always felt creepy to let others think for me.

I only let it happen when I was a really, really, little kid, because when you're that little, you're at everyone's fucking mercy, and even then, there was this sensation of my identity being slurped away, and I knew before I had the vocabulary to convey it, that I wanted to flee from that sensation as much as possible.

Well, David, I see you avoided my big long post that brought up the point, and ignored it the couple times Al-Rawandi asked, so I'll pose the question again, and see if it sticks.

If us poor atheists are going to Hell, how could you live with holding out salvation to us?

Doesn't seem to say much for your character.

How? Are they real? Are they just made up? Do they depend on who rules at any one particular time? How do you know they even exist? Do they exist? Prove it. From an atheist perspective.

Well, first of all, everything Al-Rawandi said in post 1430.

Second, your own code of "absolute morality", is made up, since the Bible is imaginary.

Peacebeaponme-

You've hit on a really interesting point there. Sometimes an atheist can act like a smug wanker, or enjoy ridiculing stupid theist claims. The total effect of this is (as the atheist sees it) nothing more than putting a theist nose out of joint. It may not be the most sophisticated or politically adept move, but does no significant harm.

However, for a theist to act in such a way, they are not only trying to wind the atheist up but (in their mind) actually saying "Fuck you, go to hell" and truly beliving that to be the consequence.

This seems somewhat less than charitable.

Its also an act of extreme malevolence that is more extreme than any atheist could manage.

Quoted to agree, and bump it to the next page.

I'm saluting that one.

Hell, I'm headbanging to that one like a metal tune.
