35, I don't understand, could you elaborate?

Regardless of how improbable evolution on earth becomes as an explanation, an ultimate intelligent designer will always be so improbable as to not be possible.

30, I meant that if there was an intelligent designer, who designed it? Intelligent design explains nothing so it is a stupid concept. It would have to be even more complex than life and the universe and would therefore be even MORE improbable to have come into existence.

I HATE the History Channel for their deferential indulgence in christian mythology. When I tried telling people about the historical accuracy of the bible, they have used the argument that the HISTORY channel covers it so it MUST be historical.

384, I don't think they were confusing it as a serious rhetorical device, they knew very well it was an annoying joke. I think they were being overly sensitive in their approach out of respect for feelings, so it only seemed that they viewed it with more than simple disdain.

382, touche. but you can't possibly think the several posts in this one thread even rival the myriad of cricket bat whacks in EVERY thread in the past month. There's no irony.

edit:381, that point was in response to Sharon's opinion that there were many people fawning over it. I was pointing out that it only seemed like many because the three who do fawn over it, do it all the time. The mind has a hard time discerning whether one person said the same thing many times, or if many said it once.

The only people who encouraged the cricket bat are Laurie, who I think has may-december-of-next-year romance in mind, Quetz, and AP.

20, I probably would also find it unsurprising if it was the opposite; that when lax moral standards are the norm you're more understanding and accepting of violations.

In this case, I think it was visceral disgust evoked by the dirty food refuse that was misappropriated to fuel harsher moral judgements.

pfft, I hated the cricket bat back when it was still a golf club.

David, I had no intention of debating you so sorry for challenging and insulting you. I learned long ago that arguing with obsessed believers is useless. The only believers who can be turned around in a convenient period of time are the ones who have never given their religion much thought, i.e., the ones that feel no need for prayer, church, spirituality, but have just been going with the flow.

153, Jesus Christ, Steve. I'm not a plant, and I don't have repulsive views. I have moderated my behavior considerably since I first started posting, and the other day after several posters agreed that I was disruptive, I altered it even more. You're being extremely uptight, irrational, and paranoid. There's no need for you to retire, all you have to do is ignore my comments. I never engage you, anyway.

edit: And are you just ignoring the context of that comment altogether? Everybody was being facetious.

100, That won't convince him. What he's doing is not only conflating empirical evidence with unsubstantiated induction, but confusing 'evidence' of a higher intelligence with 'evidence' of another evolved intelligence.

It is obvious that he's a non-thinking phony. He confronts challenges simply by saying that there IS logic and evidence for his side, without going any further.

Comment #230884 by kkelly on August 15, 2008 at 11:41 am

92, and the other point of my post? what evidence do you have of an intelligence that didn't evolve? You don't have any. Let's assume that all that so-called evidence for an intelligent designer, that you're not smart or knowledgeable enough to dismiss, actually is sound. You still don't know that that intelligence DIDN'T evolve. So your idiotic response to Brian English just wastes time.

38, One ploy, that at least catholics use for disputing any logical conflict between science and religion is that in past centuries it was other scientists, rather than the church, who were the main persecutors of dissenters like Galileo or Copernicus. I have no idea how true that is, but it's what the idiot religion teacher said, as if it isn't pointless to this topic regardless.

49, I wasn't suggesting anything be done about it. But now that you mention it there should be a ban on tank tops and jean shorts at those places. And maybe solid partitions between the lines so that I don't have to look at them while I wait in line for an hour. Or, a more clever route would be to make brown paper bags with eye holes an amusement park staple that you win at games like those lizards on a leash or stuffed animals.

8, I agree with your characterization of redneck americans, which possibly make up a majority. I'd further like to add that they also LOOK physically different (uglier) than the americans I normally encounter, and I'm not being facetious. It's not just that they're fatter or dress grossly, something about their facial structure is odd, barring the obvious explanation that they're missing their back molars and their cheeks are hollow. There's a noticeable lack of symmetry and proportion in their faces and bodies. The difference is most striking at midwestern amusement parks.
