201. We aim to misbehave

Comment #35211 by maton100 on April 26, 2007 at 3:18 pm

As Bill O'Lielly said: Sun go up, sun go down. Misbehave or not!

All I know is what O'Lielly told me: Sun go up, sun go down.

They must have the same God on that planet too. Because, as O'Lielly said: "Sun go up, sun go down."

I'm throwin' in! I'm throwin' in! A remarkably astute analysis by O'Lielly.

Comment #34475 by maton100 on April 24, 2007 at 7:16 am

I liked O'Reilly's "physiology" comment. I suppose he meant physics or biodiversity. Truly one of the great modern thinkers of our era.

I concur with BAEOZ. We should be grateful for our modern resources, but overtly ridiculous hyperbole is only going to provide antagonistic fuel for guys like D'Souza. Folks might see these efforts as merely a plot for book sales or ephemeral rebellion in the face of a presidential administration gone awry. Non-theism is a defensible, respectful and intellectual disposition. The last thing we need to do is conflate religious iconography with counter relics suggesting that "we too are a religion." We non-theists accept reality as it is, not as we want it to be.

213. NEXT MONDAY: Bill O'Reilly interviews Richard Dawkins

Comment #33184 by maton100 on April 19, 2007 at 2:27 pm

O'Reilly called Dawkins a "pinhead." On the other hand, if O'Reilly's brain was even close to the size of a pin, you'd still have enough room left over to write The Epic of Gilgamesh on it.

215. Medicine without Evolution Make Sense?

Comment #32949 by maton100 on April 18, 2007 at 7:37 pm

Sure, if you don't want to obtain foresight or understand the past. This is typical of our capitalist "me" thinking. After all we have dominion right? Jeeeeeeeez.

"That the world follows laws". One must remember that the sun won't exist forever. Neither will we. The temporary animation provided by star dust and nuclear energy surely illustrates the capricious nature of the cosmos and that "any law", no matter how ephemeral, would be seen as something worthy of awe. Nonetheless, "worthy of awe" should nor infer "worthy of worship". There is no ultimate teleology, the universe is inflating and changing.

Comment #30648 by maton100 on April 9, 2007 at 7:26 am

Comment #30260 by maton100 on April 7, 2007 at 11:03 am

reply to fortytwo....so masochism is the only way to accomplish anything, right? Why doesn't God just clear up the whole matter and make an appearance to settle the score. Oh, I guess these issues do not matter as much as a bunch of people in the desert worshipping a golden calf thousands of years ago. Dawkins sells millions of books about how there is no God and "God" was really more concerned with a couple of folks bowing to a carved cow some 5 thousand years ago? Don't you think he'd recognize this conflict and come down to referee when things really matter? Like now? Oops. I forgot, he ain't there.

The asshole element of the constructed God is overwhelming. I've know drunk and abusive fathers that look like Mr. Rogers compared to Jehovah. I'd take a knife from Robert De Niro any day over God "the father."

The Easter Bunny *is* real. On the third day he flew into heaven from the divine Easter basket. The bunny will forgive your sins if you will just accept him as your personal hare. That is why I celebrate Easter, unlike those neo-abunniests. 2 billion eggs can't be wrong.

Frosty the Snowman contains several Christian motifs, is the story of a snowman who comes to life for a time, melts (dies) but also reassures his childlike followers that he will "be back again some day." The television special developed from this song invents the concept of Frosty being made from "Christmas snow" which entails that he can never completely melt away and thus has an eternal essence.

249. World's oldest rocks show how Earth may have dodged frozen fate of Mars

Dear Friend;

This message has been sent to you by a friend or a relative who has recently
disappeared along with millions and millions of people around the world.

The reason they chose to send you this letter is because they cared about you
and would like you to know the truth about where they went.

This may come as a shock to you, but the one who sent you this has been taken
up to heaven.

If you read a Bible, you will see that after chapter three in the book of Revelation,
the church is no longer mentioned as being on earth. (The church are the believers
in Jesus Christ, not the buildings in which people meet.)

In the Bible, 1 Thessalonians Chapter 4 verses 16 and 17 tell how Jesus came
to take away His church. But, you have to believe the Bible is the Word of
God in order to believe this.

I am sure that there will be a lot of speculation as to what happened to all
these people. The theories of some scientists and world leaders will have
so much credibility that most of the world will believe them.

It will sound like the truth!

But, there is only one truth. And, that truth is that Jesus Christ, God in the flesh,
came back to earth and took with Him to Heaven all who believed in Him
and made Him their Lord.

If you would like to give your life to Jesus Christ and be born again, it is
not too late. First you must pray to God saying"Father I admit I am a
sinner, and I will turn from my sin and do good. I believe that Jesus was
your son and that He came here to die for me so that my sins would be
forgiven. I ask you to forgive me and I will repent of my sins. In Jesus
name I pray."

If you just prayed that prayer and meant it with all your heart, then God
will know you as one of His own. You should now seek out others who have
also given their lives to Christ, read a Bible daily, and do your best to
bring others to Christ.

God bless you,
Sam Harris
