Artful_Dodger-

But not even contemporary atheists are willing to grasp the implications of this: that talking about "human dignity" makes as much sense as talking about the "dignity" of caulilowers!

This isn't a new argument, and I've heard it a lot, and it keeps getting stupider every time I hear it.

There's no "meaning", to the universe.
And there's no "meaning", to life, except what we give it.
And the instrumentality that we use to give that meaning to our lives, is our brains, which evolved via group cooperation, and gave us our innate moral sense.
And it's this moral sense with which we define "human dignity".
So, while the universe doesn't give a damn about our human dignity, I couldn't give a shit, because I do care, and that's enough.

If you think a godless universe equals humans mattering as much as cauliflower, well, go ahead and try to treat me like a cauliflower, and see what happens.
Go on.

Y'know something I've noticed?

The ones who are the nicest christians, and the ones who portray christianity in the nicest light...are the ones who don't know much about it.

The ones who've read their bibles cover to cover, and have all these "sophisticated theological arguments", are the ones who spew forth the ugliest, nastiest, most deceitful and illogical reasons for having belief.

And that second group more or less accounts for 97% of the christians I've encountered online.

It's supposed to be this nice, peaceful, lovely way to live, and all I get out of these people is distortion, unreason, smugness, arrogance, passive-aggression, etc, etc.

Yeah, really good advertisement for the faith that lot is.
Ooo, sign me up for some of that shit.

Can I be a finger waving, guilt ridden, masochistic, humanity hating, superstitious, smug, and preening zombie asshole too?
Oh, please say I can!

So my guess is you are going to get a nasty post from Diacanu, and it will probably be well deserved.

Nah, I said my piece, "slimy immoral fucking little weasel piece of shit", pretty much covers it.

I feel for his mom, but Bish is a piggy, and can go wallow in his Jesus with the rest of the psychopaths.

Where are you, Bishop??

Ha?

Things got too fucking real when I brought up the real suffering of real people, instead of your fruity ass little fairy tales??

You wouldn't have the fucking balls to tell me I've never dealt with difficult issues to my face, you slimy immoral fucking little weasel piece of shit!!

Josh, ban this motherfucker.

and don't like to grapple with the difficult issues of life.

Such as?!?!?

Difficult issues like getting hospice care for my grandmother who was dying of fucking cancer?

Or difficult issues like how many motherfucking angels can dance on the head of a motherfucking pin??

No, Bish, atheism goes like this.

You claim there is a God, let's see some evidence.
No? You don't have any?
Well, I won't believe in this God person until you cough some up.
Good day.

Lol, an image just popped into my head of that scene in Superman 2 of the three villains shooting Superman with their finger rays, and Superman catching them in his palm, struggling a bit, turning red hot for a couple seconds, and then deflecting the beams back, and knocking the villains over.

Except Dawkins is Superman, and D'Souza, Cornwell, and McGrath are the villains.

Oh, and instead of his palm, Dawkins is using the shiny cover of TGD.

And alienation from said cultists for changing said worldview is no incitement whatever for me to be their friends.

Steve Zara-

You can take things at a certain pace, or you can pause to conjure up a mental image, and it is the mental imagery that is so stimulating with books.

You have to pause?
Not me.
The whole thing slurps right into my head as a VR movie; I don't even see the words anymore after a little while.

The brain really has to work at this, and the imagery can be different for each individual.

...work at it?
I've done it since I was little.
...y'know, I don't even remember learning to read.
The basics sorta clicked for me from about 3-4 years old somewhere.
The rest has been sounding out new words, and fine tuning my grammar.

Okay..okay...IF..IF...biiiig fuckin' IF...IF mankind really advances....
Really fuckin advances, socially, abandons superstition, and credulity, and religion dies with a whimper, and war fizzles, because nanobuilders fulfill everyone's needs, so no one's scrabbling over resources, and then we finally build the starships, and get out there, and hang out with aliens, and do all that cool shit...

IF all that comes to pass, and IF I have a place in it, and ain't just a fuckin mop boy, IF the future turns out that way, THEN I'd like to live to see it.

But more of this shit we've got now?
Not interested.
At all.
Has nothing to offer.
At all.
I BARELY have reason to go on in THIS society.
I end up an immortal in a dystopia, that's hell on earth.
