Thor, thanks for the CSPAN/booktv link, and for mentioning the EO Wilson interview (8/5/07).

The Flying Trilobite, yes, it is!:)

The recent Kansas school evolution brou-ha-ha produced a few cartoons along the same vein as these; they're almost as good:)

Fascinating slice of Americana...

The Flying Trilobite, thanks for that link; looks intriguing... the R.D. tid-bit was a surprise.

We enjoyed these cartoons; thanks RDF:)

Great balls of fire, interesting posts!
I've been humming the AC/DC tune for a while...

Steveroot, I too presumed it was 'American' football, esp. with the AFC & NFC making ready to duke it out.

OK, I bit........Much Adoe About Nothing:)

Astronomers refer to the movement and beauty of the night sky as "music of the spheres"; hence this void would be the "sound of silence".

Looks favorable & promising...

macros_man, agreed, thanks. We think Neil DeGrasse Tyson does a fine job ('Nova' series, running the Hayden Planetarium, new book). Still, doubtful that he, Brian Greene, et. al. are household names; what a shame.

Richard Morgan, thanks for your post-piquant. Had not read 'Desiderata'.

Comment #64979 by bluebird on August 22, 2007 at 2:26 pm

'Tis surprising, and disheartening to read this about 'Nature'.

I cringe everytime I see B.D's profanatory moniker (not to mention the posts, esp. this one).

@comment #29, not just Sundays anymore. Some U.S. companies integrate "Prayer in the Workplace" so employees can feel comfortable, or whatever. Makes me wonder if any work gets done (how it affects productivity).

Dr. Benway, thanks for suggesting "Primer" (another thread). The Hubby thought it was good, albiet dry.

Peacebeuponme, thanks for that link.

Shame on our local news for facilitating ignorance by letting Susan Miller www.astrologyzone.com plug her new book. It would've been beyond gratifying if that piece of froufrou was pre-empted, or followed with R.D. discussing this subject.

Comment #61757 by bluebird on August 6, 2007 at 7:09 pm

Hmmm, time for us to donate again to
'Growing up in the Universe' DVDs for schools so kids can "become familiar with it and investigate it (science/reason) even further".

288. Rapture Ready: The Unauthorized Christians United for Israel Tour

Comment #59576 by bluebird on July 29, 2007 at 6:33 pm

mjwemdee, it wasn't ballet, rather I think the 'blue woman' was trying to channel Martha Graham (a pioneer of modern dance). Inserting "dance" into church/gatherings has become popular the last 10-20 years as a way to entice young adults to attend. Also, "it's a way to use your whole body to worship the lord".

Kudos to Mr. Blumenthal for his work attending conferences, etc. Going 'into the trenches' to garner information for the public is laudable.

My husband is a letter carrier and hates/resents having to deliver religious crap. If he had to deliver these, he'd s*** a brick.
