Bill is absolutely fantastic and funny. Both thumbs up.
He's doing a great job pointing out the stupidity of some beliefs

How is it possible not to believe that god created the magnificent cosmos in all it's beauty and splendor?
How is it possible not to believe that god created the gorgeous tsunamis in all it's fury?, or the earth shaking earthquakes?, or hurricanes, or plagues?
How can we doubt this splendid creator of everything?

there are many believers because it's easier to believe than to think. Therefore many believers and few thinkers.

I'm holding really hard to the 21 century.
This was an entirely waste of time. How about you Prof., did you feel it was a waste of your time as well?
And that black lady and the guy running for mayor, best specimen of arrogance and ignorance I've seen in a long time. Enough ranting.

People believe because life is full of uncertainties and frequent tragedies and in those times it's easy to succumb to a "higher power". I remember the priest frequent comment that when things are going well we forget about god but in times of need the church fills up and its treasure coffins.

NIce, honest, and sincere article.
I'm not sure I agree with him in evolution being a result of chance. From what I know mutation happens by chance but selection does not. If I'm wrong I'd enjoy being corrected. In addition he believes in freewill, and being a determinist, it doesn't make sense to me. I know most people believe in having free will, so I don't expect most people to agree with me.

I appreciate people like Prof. Dawkins, Hitchens,Dennet, Harris, and others to defend science and rational thinking. Just look at the presidential candidates. One says we can't have freedom without religion and another one wants to change the constitution to fit the word of god. If one of this two becomes president who will be the next replacement for a judge in the Supreme Court?
Yes, we need the above people debating and writing books to bring more people out of fuzzy thinking.
Thank god for R. Dawkins

Someone just knocked on the door ,guess who?. Well the Jehovah team. I told them I believe in science and the natural world and one of them responded there is science in the bible. I just told them to read some science and said good bye. I just wonder if anyone would give me some advice as to how to respond better in a fruitful way.

Religites intentionally or ignorantly mix ideologies with atheism. To me atheism is the result of thinking thru ideas and claims and requiring evidence, nothing to do with idealogies. Stalin, Hitler etc., are all idealogies just like religions. Maybe I'm being too simplistic here. If so I welcome any comments.

D'Souza muddles every debate. He really doesn't debate, instead he brings a lot of different topics like life freewill, big-bang, ultimate-cause,etc., that, like Dennet said, would require hours to be explained. I think this is a strategy not to answer the issues in the debate.

"Science can't explain freewill"
Let me give it a try and I'm not even a scientist.
Freewill: the explanation that when I choose to act in one way rather than another, I make the choice, and no set of external or internal causes cause me to choose the act I choose.

What I can't understand about prolife supporters is that they care so much about life before birth but I see little, or certainly not enough, help
once a baby is born.
Consider all the kids that are hungry in the world, homeless people, kids growing without even a base education, lack of health insurance.
It seems to me that prolifers should be more consistent and care for all life or be honest and say the only care for pre-life only.
p.s. forgot stem cell research.

In the early 60's living in Cuba as a teenager buying a condo at the pharmacy was a sign of pride and sophistication. I always assumed it's pretty much the same in other latin countries. Also while Cuba was then a catholic country most of the people were not the church going type, at least the people I knew.

I've only read a few of the postings but since the issue of freewill has come up several times and since it's so central to christian beliefs I like to give freewill a definition I've read somewhere.
Free Will: the explanation that when I choose to act in one way rather than another I make the choice, and no set of external or internal causes cause me to choose the act I choose.

This is a beautiful scheme to swindle ignorant people of their money. Imagine we're evangelizing the nation. How many tv stations do we have compared to the religious networks? Only a few books on atheism (very effective ones) have being published in the last couple of years compared to the thousand s published by religious authors. Who's evangelizing who? Give me a break! Another ploy to bilk people of their money. Without being arrogant I'm glad I can see where before I was blind. Hallelujah!!!!!

Atheism = process by which clear thinking or reason is used to verify the truth or falsity of a premise religious or otherwise.

After reading this article I disagreed with Sam thinking that the label atheist is what defines us as group with similar ideas about religion but then I read an article at Jovialatheist.com titles "Atheism is not what you think". Now I'm not sure that I disagree with Sam. Hope some of you guys will read the article and give your opinion .
