I think the thing not to overlook its that Sree is expression what 40% of our nation seems to passionately believe. Dismissing it like we have been doing for the past couple decades won’t do anyone any good.
As best as I can remember, the fourth phase of the societal cycle is ushered in by corruption in government, intransigent leaders,…

Sree writes: the notion that one person, or even the entire human race, for that matter, can make a difference in the scheme of things is delusion.
Is this an example of helping move the conversation along?
What is going on in your head to enable make such an outlandish pronouncement. With a serious face?
Do you pay any attention to our…[Read more]

Sree: Jane Goodall believes she understands chimps.
I don’t think Jane Goodall claims to know everything about chimps. I also dare say that the claims she does make, she frames very carefully and that she has amassed a good deal of data supporting those nuanced conclusions.
I dare say Jane Goodall knows light years more about chimps than you or I.

I’d welcome any corrections.
No correction here, though I believe Isaac Asimov did a masterful essay worth share.
The Relativity of Wrong

I RECEIVED a letter the other day. It was handwritten in crabbed penmanship so that it was very difficult to read. Nevertheless, I…

Sree, I sort of like how that sounds, but …
mind is a metaphor
Doesn’t that gloss over a whole bunch?
How do you mean that?
Mind as metaphor for what?

Zain – I get that but I’ve been showing some examples of how people think our “progress” is anything but
But, I think the real problem is that people only want to focus on the good our progress provides
so we create every obstacle we can to avoid looking and appreciating and weighting the damages, the good things in our lives inflict on other…[Read more]

Point what out, –CC
That we have progressed as a species by expanding our circles of compassion ever outward, caring for people we have never met and who are as yet unborn.
Okay, that makes sense, that I can follow, went back and read your original paragraph, and I feel better, it still confuses me the way its written. ;-…[Read more]

Yes, we should offer people a chance, but give it only to those who are willing to use it to become contributing members of society.
Of course, Bob is assuming everyone out there is as ‘balanced,’ as healthy, as aware as he believes himself to be.
So of course the homeless, the down trodden, only have themselves to blame, so fuk ’em.

Thank you W4U, The intimate link between biology and geology gives me a more expansive few of evolution – I can’t make sense of any dividing line proposed, because there were always prerequisite building blocks at every stage of biology. Fractals all fractals. Heck you can’t understand detailed biology without taking into account the quantum s…[Read more]

But we can separate that from actual progress.
I don’t always agree with you Lausten, and I do like pushing back on some of the things you write, just for the sport of it – but it’s not often a comment from you leaves more confused than when I started.
