Hmmm, personally seems to me if you want to have a serious discussion about the “Evolution” of religion, that it would not be out of hand to first consider grieving in animals.  I think it’s important because, grieving death is the first recognition of something going on that’s beyond living.

Developing (evolving) curiosity and brains can heap all sorts of notion on top of those original impulse to understand what’s going on beyond our lives.

Also I think it’s a mistake to try to dispute notions of “Intelligent Design” out right – it should be recognized as a nature step to simple humans better understanding – the thing that must be made crystal clear is that Intelligent Design belongs to the domain of philosophy and religion.

In no way does ID meet any of the requirements to be taken seriously as a constructive Science.

In the same vain, I have no problem with people believing in God.

Where I draw the line is in believing you petty, self-servicing human, have found a key to understand God.

You, and I, are looking at shadow plays, and that’s the best human we’ll ever be able to do with something as big as the “God of Light and Matter, Life and Love.”   The notion that there is only one way to God and that this opens an eternal afterlife is (sorry, but lets call a spade, a spade) geocentric insanity.
