Indeed, this video is a great summary to the basic mechanics of perception.

My question from above is about the point this mechanism does work in a way it isn’t fully reliable anymore. Not only restrictet to sensory perception and its immediate “first level” processing but also the later overall cognition when the different parts of abstract knowledge getting consciously addet to the general worldview.

I’d say its a hard question because the preservation of mental integrity is also important as the perception and cognition of the surrounding world. I personally for myself say, it is crucial for the mental integrity to be flexible and resilient enough to be able to take the reality that our normal functioning perception receives and adapt to it.
