W;
You were responding to this from Tim;
It occurs to me that this God may have a narcissistic personality disorder. And we know that âGodâ is a concept created by humans. So I wonder why the humans that created this concept of God, made such an imperfect deity?
Tee was talking specifically about the Christian God, but Tim expanded it to the c…[Read more]

Itâs a fabulous example (but Iâm sure you knew that). It demonstrates the position of IDers and Creationists beautifully.
Never thought I’d see people needing to defend this. It’s one of the most commonly quoted analogies about ID that I know of. Adams wrote some short, sometimes childless, sometimes poignant books that played around with a myr…[Read more]

Do you agree with me or not that a material, scientific explanation for the presence of the universe is a logical impossibility? Iâve been getting push back from many here yet this is as simple as it can be, it is a logical impossibility. — SH
No, I don’t agree with you. I’ve made that clear. I agree we can’t be 100% certain, but “scientific ex…[Read more]

My four points stand. – I am Genus Homo
Letâs start with where we agree. âReligion is layered with custom, tradition and orthodoxy and those things are very worldlyâŚâ. Okay. Iâm not sure if we agree about âspiritual awakeningâ, but thatâs a whole ânother discussion. Letâs just say Iâm open to what you MIGHT be saying. And, we basically agree th…[Read more]

Really Widdershins? Dozens = dozens. The meme Iâm referring to is that some small number of people figured out how to control people by creating a religion, so they created one by writing scripture. History shows that religion developed some 80 to 200 thousand years ago and became part of how we developed tribes and eventually nations. Along the w…[Read more]

Scattered and abstruse reasoning doesnât make for persuasive advocacy. — Genus
Okay. I thought I’d try something a little different since there are arguments against the Kalam Cosmological Argument everywhere. I’ll edit out all my ramblings and address your points more directly.

Whoa, did not see that coming. This is the guy who posted the 1948 Russell-Copleston debate and said it’s the kind of discussion he wanted. My hopes for that were quickly dashed when he never really tried.
Yes, Sherlock, repetitive posting is something that is done by other people. That’s why I only mentioned it, in a gentlemanly manner. I didn’t…[Read more]

Because at least dozens of people had their hand in Godâs creation –W
So, it only took “dozens” to capture the minds of billions? When will this atheist meme die? Religion could not have survived if it did not have some power to increase the survival chances of groups.Â

I do not need your advice on how to read a post and post a response to it Lausten.
I don’t think you understand how forums work.

The second paragraph I quoted begs to differ.
Are we talking about the same words?
I believe the preferred state is the balanced mind where there is no need of mushrooms to seek enlightenment, I would think that would make you happy.
That says emotions matter. You want a balance of head of heart.

Bill Hicks had a comedy routine about The People Who Hate People party. He wanted to organize them, but it was hard to get people to come to meetings. Get it? Because they hate it each other.
I think Xian is going to have a similar problem getting people to accept his “unhappiness is the answer” form of Buddhism.

Actually I think a root problem is that I donât hear any liberals defending what theyâre all about.
Politicians are all stuck in a pro-growth world,
Aren’t the big players in the Democratic party pro-growth? I’m not sure you can get to be a big player if you aren’t. When not talking about infrastructure and the military and protecting the oil eco…[Read more]

You kinda either get it or you donât.
The whole claim on getting the Bible right has been going on for so long, you’d think more people would have got the joke by now. What’s amazing is people like JD Crossan who write books about how everyone is wrong, but somehow manages to come up with a way to justify his faith anyway.

This might sound ludicrous and it is. Just as ludicrous as the puddle saying to it self what was above cited. Therefore Mr. Adamsâs comment is nugatory and says nothing.
It’s not ludicrous, it’s an analogy, a thought experiment, or as Jesus said, “it is as if”.

What about trying to engage some media cluttered minds?
Sure, but you say stuff about hitting them below the belt, so that’s not “engaging”. My comment was about picking candidates and a message, that’s one part of the political process. Talking to your community is another. You can do both. So there’s “what about” question here.

What you are saying is to be indifferent to these things.
I showed you that Buddhist master who said that deciding to be indifferent is an error that Buddhist students make. But you ignore what you want instead of listening to teachers.

When people say âmore highly evolvedâ arenât they referring to greater complexity and abilities of said creature.

I appreciate the links Xian, they help me understand how you cherry pick them and misunderstand Buddhism. The conclusion of the one about a perfect world is right there at the bottom. It has the heading âCONCLUSIONâ.
Dare to try a grand experiment. Allow yourself to see the world as perfect the way it is.  Imagine that it may be an orches…
