this is about confronting assumptions of the faith-shackled. Â Of the unschooled.
You might want to start by not calling them ignorant and closed minded.

Holy Crap, Mike Yohe actually was on to something. There is a theory in cultural anthropology that early tribes “domesticated themselves”. You would have never found this using what Mike said, because he so misrepresented it, it became unrecognizable. The theory is, early primates and in to early hominid tribes used alpha males to keep order,…[Read more]

You need to think more Deeply about your own Conscious Experiences.
And you claim there is a “hard problem of consciousness”. So if I can’t tell what consciousness is, how can I think more “deeply” to know what that is? I’m not just playing semantics here, I’m trying to get you to define your terms.

So it is not ârationalâ, but neither can I say it is âirrationalâ simply because I donât agree with it. The same is true for any belief. — Widders
You’re playing too much with the words here. Belief is not something that you choose to have arbitrarily. The Martian tuna is an example to help illustrate how we all apply our rational minds to sit…[Read more]

Plus I think it is ironic that he is making this statement without knowing how much he benefits from everyone else not following it.
That is an excellent insight. The philosopher can’t sit around staring at his navel all day if no one is bringing in the harvest or at least foraging for some berries.

Again you guys are missing the mark here.
That’s how you see it, but here’s what we all know, in your words:
But it just feels like I NEED to know in order to move on with my life, of course I said the same thing about every other article and line in my head.
That’s what you need to deal with, not some answer about Buddhism that doesn’t exist.

I had an intuitive sense of the theme of The Righteous Mind before I read it, maybe I had heard some of the themes in media. It’s pretty dense, but he stops and summarizes often enough that you don’t need to memorize the name of every philosopher and psychologist he mentions. Likewise, I can’t give you a forum post size summary of all the points.…[Read more]

It the same old, SOW DOUBT tactic after four plus decades of evolution and victories, while the liberals stand on the sidelines bemoaning the situation and weâre all talking past each other. Â Why not some direct: Wait a fukin minute, that is false and this and this you are ignoring â and shove their faces in their own deceit.
Because they don’…[Read more]

They wonât ever take the place of the grand narratives created over centuries when religion and science were the same thing.
I think they are in a position to do that though, since now, science is culture. People don’t think about the history of oil and auto manufacturing, they just speed down the road in their magic machines.
about innocence l…

They say people need stories and myths to make sense of the world around them â why not supply some fact based stories, that are so much more satisfying than myths, because they enable a life time of nonstop learning and personal discovering regarding the existence beyond us.
The Sacred Depths of Nature is one of the best stabs at this that I’v…[Read more]

I did this a while ago. I don’t think the data goes anywhere except for use by Haidt and his team but I should check into that more. I remember scoring high on purity, which was a surprise. I thought the questions were fun. One of the purity ones was something about gutting a deer on live television. I can’t explain exactly what my emotional…[Read more]

I can’t find a citation, but I found a few people who quoted this. I know it’s in the teachings somehow because I’ve heard similar sentiments. But, don’t trust me, think for yourself, that’s the point.

I’m reading “The Righteous Mind”, about how self-righteousness is innate and might even be helpful to holding society together. In this diagram, he shows how we start with the emotional response, then justify it with reasons. Line #6 is dotted, because it is not so common, it’s self-reflection that rewires your thinking so your emotional response…[Read more]
