That would be a good exercise for you Xian. How do you know you love someone or not?

Good question. Not for me of course, I don’t have one of those things. But it’s the Descartes evil demon thought experiment. First, are you being controlled by a demon? Second, how would we know? Is it letting you feel happy sometimes just to trick you? Is it letting you believe you can think and reason for yourself, creating a logical world for…[Read more]

The fact is that apparent similarities is not proof of a causal relationship, they could simply be similarities, it could just be that – not in every case but in many areas of natural selection this is the case.
It could be. But there’s lots more to know about DNA and where it came from. Go read a book.

You’ll find this here – do I take it we all agree on this at least?
Agreed. The article you linked also says this
I merely want to make a few points that should allow you to see that there’s plenty of reason to believe that genes probably aren’t responsible for IQ differences between racial groups.¹
And goes on to give strong evidence for why in…[Read more]

In which case leave, I expect no further posts form you in this thread.
That would be nice if you had that sort of power wouldn’t it? This is a marketplace of ideas. You don’t get to dictate who is here. You have to defend your ideas with evidence and reason.

The existence of the aether was regarded as beyond serious question, the experiment to reveal it was regarded as technically challenging but completely foreseeable – the aether would be found to exist, no notable physicist at the time doubted this.
So, it was “beyond serious question”, yet they questioned it. Isn’t that actually proof that the v…[Read more]

I think we’re done here Holmes. You’re entire theme can be summed up in your discomfort and lack of understanding of a few words, like “scientific fact”, the physicist’s definition of “nothing”, “certainty”, and a few others. I’ve tried to point this out many times and discuss it with you, but you just keep repeating yourself.

because there is masses of statistical evidence supporting this
You are mistaking quantity with quality. You are also ignoring the masses of data that contradict the masses that support your conclusion. Also most likely aren’t interpreting the data you know about correctly, but then we’d have to see what the F you are referring to, wouldn’t we?…[Read more]

It’s not important what CC thinks (sorry CC, I know you get what I mean). What’s important is what conclusions the data points to.

That was good. No grades for this though. Glad you didn’t “cheat”.
What you included, that the Critical Thinking group does not, is most of our knowledge comes from personal experience including the people around us that we trust. That sounds a bit dangerous, and can be in isolated situations, but the world is not isolated. The danger of only…[Read more]

I got together with a few friends I don’t see too often recently, and noting that they were some of the most thoughtful people I know, I pointed out how the weirdest thing I’ve found as I get older is, people don’t seem to know why they believe what they do. It’s like they don’t even think about it. If they talk about something they read or heard,…[Read more]

2) There are literally dozens of scientific refutations of Casey Luskin’s books, articles and speeches. Again and again and again, they point out that Luskin does not know what he is talking about in terms of science. He is not credible, except in religious circles. — Tee

Question – why study something you have no interest in or don’t care about, like religion?
I’ve answered that, on this page, and many times in the past.

This is pretty preachy dude:
What do you mean, you don’t have a god? Is god not your main topic? I am not just picking on you. I think most all poster here are still in the Christian Bubble. You don’t see it because you are still inside of the bubble. I can see your arm go up in the air when crowd shouts Sieg Heil.

Could it be you are in this bubble? I respond to posts about God because I see how religion has corrupted philosophy and harmed human progress. I’m aware of God talk because it’s everywhere you go. I’ve responded to your posts about Gnosticism too, but I don’t respond to posts that simply say I’m not responding to a subject. Say something…[Read more]

I figured we needed a break from apologetics, so how about actually talking about humanism? This article resoundingly answers the question that humanism is not well articulated, first with a romp through history, then a review of a recent book, “This Life” by Martin Hagglund. Another one to add to the…[Read more]

Never going to hear any talk about GSM experts predicting a decade ago the weather we had last winter and the hurricane pattern we are having today.
I guess we have different definitions of “predict”, because that’s exactly GW predicts, more and stronger hurricanes and changes to average temps and precipitation. They can’t predict down to the…[Read more]
