Humans have been erroneously ascribing attributes to God since our ancestors first looked up at the sky or experienced their first frightening thunderstorm.

I appreciate the conversation Genus, but we may have reached the apogee of it. Although you have some very modern, enlightened views of the concept of God, you still are holding on to the idea that you somehow know God. You are able to judge others on their version of God, the attributes they assign. I don’t know how you get to do that.

I take a naturalistic view of God, which includes some cultural norms that help enforce behavior that has resulted in my personal comfort. Many atheists don’t like that I see those benefits. Believers however, don’t want me messing with their view of God as a real thing. In my opinion, those two dislikes are the problems. Religions evolve, but they don’t admit it, or they claim God is guiding the evolution, so they’ll never break out of the belief hole. Atheists think religion can be eliminated and the underlying problems that were there before will also disappear, so they are stuck with a unworkable solution and they can’t see why they are losing the arguments.
