Where in this shuffling milieu of complicated ideas and traditions is there a place for the free thinking mind of an individual who’s trying to answer the fundamental question of how,if and why he or she is connected to that ultimate reality?

I think they are working on that at CERN.

I’m not advocating for religion. I’m advocating for the central theological assertion that God exists.

Maybe not a central point, but if you put a capital G on God, then you are referring to a particular god, it’s a proper noun. Most people will think you mean at least a monotheistic god, and many will think you mean the one from the Bible.
