With respect to the forum, I am not attempting to beat a dead horse on a topic that many of you have probably had gone through many times in the past. If not interested, just refrain from posting and this thread can easily die unanswered. I’m fine either way, but I was hoping to get more perspective on the topic.
culĀ·turĀ·al apĀ·proĀ·priĀ·aĀ·tion
noun
the unacknowledged or inappropriate adoption of the customs, practices, ideas, etc. of one people or society by members of another and typically more dominant people or society.
I have no idea how this line of thinking ever got any steam on it, but apparently, it’s become a passion for some minority groups. The first time I ever heard of the word was on a NEWS article of a black woman who attacked a white kid because he had dreadlocks. I’m fully in line with the idea that you don’t do things to mock other cultures, but now you can’t do, use, or have certain things because apparently now that culture owns it. Does anyone here agree with cultural appropriation? If so, how could any system possibly be implemented within society that prevents others from using other races’ inventions?
