Presidents don’t need to be overly scientifically literate to do their job as they have access to those who are.
What is needed is a lesson in history. Ignore the results of scientific research for the sake of a 4 year tenancy and reap the rewards as your legacy to the world.
Trump has demonstrated (not saying proved because proof really wasn’t…[Read more]
This is what happens when you treat science like religion. believing if you throw more money at it it will treat you favourably and represent you over others.
I often wonder if some of the therapeutic uses for cannabis would never have come to light without the Reagan administration throwing money at science to prove it caused cancer.
I can…[Read more]

is banned in Britain and many other countries, because the genetic changes would be passed down to future generations and the risks are largely unknown.
Which is sad. Anything to do with future generations carries risks that are largely unknown. The rule mitigates the risk by taking away the prospect of future generations
The list goes on: Believing that free will is an illusion has been shown to make people less creative, more likely to conform, less willing to learn from their mistakes, and less grateful toward one another. In every regard, it seems, when we embrace determinism, we indulge our dark side.
While the article is balanced on the whole I worry…[Read more]
If Mrs. Clinton is serious and releases files on Area 51 — those, she adds, that do not breach the country’s security — the result will probably be anticlimactic. More fuel for the conspiracy theorists.
what else could happen? even if these files included film footage of a troupe of captured aliens putting on a performance of Oklah…[Read more]

SaganTheCat commented on the post, Why Sex May Be the Greatest Threat to Christianity 11 months, 2 weeks ago
I could put it another way. If you were a “normal” christian, happily married and completely straight, you’re left with a bit of a problem understanding sexual sin.
Religion has since the story of Adam and Eve, conflated wrongdoing with desire. Modern xtians say it’s ok to “be” gay, just not to act on it. sexual desire is universal so everyone…[Read more]
What’s the delay in getting Turkey into the EU? I think the sooner the better then every time a character from a medieval fairytale passes a sentence like this the court of human rights can slap them down right away.

“safe space” just sounds like a euphemism for a toilet cubicle. which is the only safe space you need in college. what’s more it’s already gender segregated for those frightened of biological differences and you have every right to complain if someone walks in and says something you don’t wish to hear
The correct way to greet people without spreading germs is to walk into a room with your tail up and the tip pointing forward.
If that doesn’t get attention they’re probably asleep so stick your snout in their open mouths and try and scent-mark their teeth.
Sorry Richard, if you’re complaining that you have a cold because you’re getting all the…[Read more]
I for one shall get involved in this poptastic new idea. while mastering the rubiks cube and wearing a sweat band and global hypercolour t shirt to the discotheque.

the danger of nuclear energy: superheated water and rapid decompression can release huge amounts of kinetic energy.
Does no one ever question our reliance on industrial revolution based technology to generate electricity?

How many (innocent) Muslims (including a lot of children) were killed by the hands, or rather guns and bombs, of the ´Christian´ West??
You claim “I’m an atheist” after using a sins-of-the-father argument to justify your point (I think this makes you an “atheist-but” and certainly no humanist). Similarly the regressive-left have defended t…[Read more]
This article will not educate the anti-vaxxers.
Every time I encounter one they fall back on the “natures way” argument and this article supports their position.

SaganTheCat commented on the post, “Genetic Scissors” Can Completely Eliminate HIV From Cells 1 year, 1 month ago
Not sure if I have this right but as I understand it, a retrovirus like HIV puts code into its host’s DNA which acts as a sort of template for creating new viruses even if the infection has been cleared out. So this technique would edit the genome of the host to take out the but of code inserted rather than attacking the virus…[Read more]
