“Maybe this has been mentioned in the last 20 pages, but at what age do you believe an embryonic brain become a ‘functioning brain’?”

That is still an open scientific question.  Fortunately, there have been great advances in scanning technology and medical science in general, so I think that the more research is done the more accurately that very important question can be answered.

Hopefully we can agree that if there is no brain there is no brain function.  Further, there is no significant difference in brain development a day prior as compared to a day after a normal term birth.  I suggest we work our way in from both ends with scientific research.
