@Pi
So, your opposition to abortion is because we donāt know enough about the developmental stages of the embryonic brain to accurately determine the point at which the fetal brain is āfunctioningā?
That’s an interesting take on my position, I hadn’t really consciously thought of things in quite that way, but it does raise the issue of how we make judgements with incomplete information.Ā Some would say we should err on the side of caution.Ā Yet, we make compromises and trade offs in life or death matters with public policy in health care, transportation, law enforcement, etc.
The worst situation for abortion right now is in the few states that do not limit abortions post viability.Ā Here in the USA there are still places where a woman can have a 32 week baby, go to the hospital, and have a normal live birth, or she can go to a nearby clinic and pay to have the baby killed and disposed of at Southwestern Women’s Options 522 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
The 1 brain per person standard works the other way too because it means 0 brains per 0 persons, making the Alabama law the work of superstitious fruitcakes.
As technology advances viability age will continue to drop until it reaches the absurd point of an embryo as viable, so it think the brain function standard will become an inevitable necessity.
