Genus homo,
It is refreshing to hear your kind and polite discourse. In regards to your saying “…(agnostics say that theists retreat to the stance that:) God is unknowable and therefore faith and only faith can be persuasive in convincing an individual to believe that God exists. The problem with this argument is that the agnostic gives no…[Read more]

TimB replied to the topic Since a scientific explanation has been proven to be a logical impossibility in the forum Science and Technology 5 years, 3 months ago
It is a serious misinterpretation and use of the circulus probando logic issue. I don’t say that science as a concept explains why we have science, or the “laws of nature” explain why we have “laws of nature”. But I can and do come up with explanation as to how “the laws of nature” came to exist by using concepts discovered by science, i…[Read more]

Sherlock: “Science cannot be used to explain why we have science, you cannot use the laws of nature to explain why there are laws of nature or how laws of nature came to exist.”
TimB: Really? How did you come to be in charge of making that rule (some misused Latin words?)?

TimB replied to the topic Build that wall? in the forum Politics and Social Issues 5 years, 3 months ago
A reticulating saw with specific blades can easily defeat the 1st wall. Or one could invest in a 32ish foot regular ladder and a 30 foot rope ladder and away you go. The saw method looks about as cheap and much more effective and efficient than the ladder method. Plus I would rather have a reticulating saw to keep than the ladders. That’s ri…[Read more]

T rump hasn’t really started building a border wall, but he has claimed some new construction of wall as his own, even tho the money and approval for upkeep was appropriated during the Obama Administration.
But T rump wants to keep spending billions to construct his personal vanity project (and to please his MAGAheads).
It is nonsense and…[Read more]

If I were to accept the existence of an agent (entity?) that existed prior to time itself and beyond the natural laws that regulate all physical matter in the universe, how could I ever know the mystery of where the f— that entity came from, or how it came to be outside of the scope of natural laws?
How could I tolerate not knowing?
Now if I…[Read more]

I think it is quite true that evolution resulted in humans with a predisposition to develop religions and also humans who have the capacity to develop critical thinking. However, the manifestation of and maintenance of both, depend on various cultural influences. Cultures evolve also but not exactly as biological evolution occurs. In bi…[Read more]

Holy crap! They are putting human organoids, up to 50% in some mice brains, and saying, don’t worry it doesn’t hurt the mice.
Jeebus, there could be real live Mickey Mouse characters out there, and no one may even realize.
I do think that was a handsome picture of a Neanderthal man, late in the video.

I guess the “conservatives” think that since it’s okay for famous rich guys (like T rump) to grab women by the pussy, then it should be no problem at all to have Licensed Doctors to put their fingers and instruments up inside women’s pussies for no medical reason (some of the women of whom have been victims of sexual assault already). Cause that…[Read more]

Speaking of self hoisting via petard, I hear T rump wants to sit in front of a fireplace and read the transcript of his Ukraine call to the American people on live TV.
That should be fun. (Tho, unfortunately, his staff would probably physically restrain him to keep him from doing it.)

I think Hill and Franken were both quite competent Congresspersons. The so-called “modern playbook on male-female acceptable vs lose-your-job behavior” needs some refinement.

Right. I don’t understand how a prayer can make a yawn stop immediately, because a yawn only lasts a matter of seconds. How long does a prayer take? The yawn will be over by the time a prayer gets going.
And how do you know that a prayer prevents yawning? Maybe the yawn was not going to happen anyway.
