I’m stretching a bit, but not by much because they did try to enslave Native Americans too.

Interestingly the California Missions along the El Camino Real used Native Indians as slaves, although they were treated decently. Many stayed voluntarily for several generations and were known as “Mission Indians”. I know this because my wife’s great grandmother and grandmother worked on the mission grounds.

The missionaries kept very precise records of who worked for the mission and we were able to obtain copies of some records.
